Downtown Kalamazoo

I want to try fishing the Kalamazoo River from the Paterson Street Launch. I know from a canoe fishing trip from Parchment to D avenue that it gets very shallow that way, but can anyone give me information on "boatability" from Paterson Street to Parchment and the other direction towards Comstock? I will be in a 14' aluminum.
