Graduation Speech

Here are some good points from a graduation speech that Jim Harbaugh gave the other day. He has some valid points.

1."Start everything you do with respect. If you want to be respected, treat everybody as if they're the most important person, the most important thing to our success. Because in that moment, they are."
2."Be honest. You will have choices to make and where a dishonest edge can be gained. And whatever gain is made will be undermined sometime down the road. As our dad told us, flat out, never lie, never cheat, never steal, it won't be worth it. It's the basis of trust, which is the basis of all things. ... The value of becoming a known person of character and integrity is priceless. ... Another piece from Judge Judy on honesty, if you tell the truth you don't need a good memory."
3."Learn to follow. Obedience is an underrated talent. In today's culture being a follower and obedient is treated as a negative. Actually, the ability to put oneself under authority is a valuable and rare talent. Continue to seek help. ... You are with whom you associate."
4."Do one more thing and find one more thing to do. Don't advertise it, just do it. Everybody you're competing with from here on out will be doing what they're asked, doing what's expected of them." (That led to his Halloween story of racing around the neighborhood in his cowboy costume, filling his pumpkin with candy before other kids could even get out the door. And then realizing he could go home, put on a Spiderman mask, and hit those same houses again "which leads me to my next point…")
5."Hustle. Hustling at all times. Better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today."
6."Compete. Wake up each day and attack with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind."
7."Go back to your beginnings. Your first experience in education, learning the ABCs. Picture the alphabet above the white board… A – Accelerate, get going. B – Balance, finding that balance. C – Confidence and also could use cause."
