Higgins Lake 5/31/15

 -

Never fished Higgins Lake(camped nearby when I was younger) and due to the crappy weekend weather in A2, decided to make a quick road trip to Higgins Lake. It was cool, sunny, but a pretty windy day. Mind you we do most of our inland lake fishing from a canoe...with a trolling motor. Now, being on Higgins lake on a blustery day, may not always be the safest idea but what the heck, made the drive. We did get some curious looks from the handful of boats out lol, especially when we were trolling by what looked liked a charter boat and they came towards our direction and almost hit my "little Best" on the bow. Not sure how many canoes they see trolling 90' depths there but may have given them a good laugh lol. We usually troll out to a spot and troll back on any new lake and didn't get a bite trolling out. Found a spot on the east side of the lake, had to backteoll just to stay on our spot cause of the wind. Marked some big fish bir couldn't get any of them to hit jigging. Found a school of perch and action was good. Kept 18(pic doesn't show the ones in the cooler) total perch for dinner, threw about the same number back. The males were still milting a lot. Now I know how my girlfriend feels lol! Got that stuff all over my shoes and bib. We moved off the school to see if we could catch any of the bigger marks but no luck. Did manage a giant rock bass. Decided to call it a day after about 4 hours on the water, was trolling in and my GF caught a small laker. A great way to end the day on a beautiful lake. If we didn't have electronics, think this day could've been a bust. Perch were all caught in 20-35' and the laker was caught suspended over 55'.
