Well, took the new boat out for her first excursion on Saginaw Bay, and even though my fishing buddy couldn't make it, I enjoyed the trip.
Launched out of Eagle Bay on Wednesday, and fished the 24' to 15' depths and took a variety of fish on an assortment of blades. Many of the fish were shorts, but scattered through out were some decent 18" fish. Farm animals made their appearance as well when I let the speed fall below 1.2 mph.
Got a message from Horseshoe that they had set up camp and their party was on the water as well.
Thursday, launched out of AuGres and headed out to check some old numbers I've used in the past. Marked some bigger fish in 35' of water, but no takers. Headed back down south and set up to troll downhill with the SE wind and pointed myself towards Saganing bar. Took some decent 18" to 20" eaters on this run and ended up running back north to check in with Horseshoe and his crew as they were in the pack out there at 35' off of the point. Couldn't get the big fish to go, but again, eaters were the norm.
Didn't catch a single Sheephead yesterday and Horseshoe reported the same thing....strange.
Also, quite the bug hatch going on right now, had to rinse the boat down on the bay as they were so plentiful! LOL
Watch the winds, and be safe out there !
froggy, out!
