Are you sure you are asking about the right sensor? A MAP sensor is manifold absolute pressure sensor. I'm not a mechanic so I don't know exactly what it does but I know that one that will not let a car run or run really poorly is the MAF sensor, that's the mass air flow, in fuel injected engines that tells the computer how much air is coming in, telling the computer how much gas to it needs.
On our old car the MAF sensor went bad and left us stranded on the side of the road.
