I'm a book guy. I would never discourage anyone from reading books of any kind. If you can afford it and have the time, read all you can. However, being new to fishing, I think the best thing for you to do is find a lake or three near you that you can fish often. Get to know their secrets. There are really only three kinds of fishing lakes. A few are terrible, a few great, but most are average. I think most of us on this site would do better on an average lake that we know than on a great lake we don't know.
