Fishing Metro Basin off a paddle boat WDYT

I have a 4 place fiberglass paddle boat with aluminum pontoons (on a trailer) that I bought years ago. I was wondering what you folks thing about putting it in at Metro or some other spot and fish next to the ice. And also your thoughts after ice out. I'm I wasting my time? What do you think? I would appreciate any help I can get.
