Gift of a Rifle for my wife

I tried searching for some guidance on this topic and I think I know my answer but I wanted to get some other opinions as I am not 100% settled yet.

Here is my question ...

I want to buy a rifle for my wife as a gift and I don't want her to know about it. We have been talking for a while of getting her one (Tikka T3 Lite 22-250) and now that we decided on one I want to surprise her with it. However, my question surrounds the "legal transfer" of it. We both are Michigan residents and reside in the state and so would the gun. If I buy it, say from Cabela's, is there a legal requirement or form I need to fill out to transfer it to be in her name after I leave there?

My research leads to me to understand that Michigan does not track "ownership" of long guns and they can be bought / sold between parties with no legal process needed. Of course due diligence is important and some sort of record would be good (CYA) but other than that I can buy and sell, or gift, long guns with no issues.

Am I correct in this?
