Gun Class needed ?

I just purchased a 9mm ported shield with fiber optic sights. I intend on applying for a concealed weapons carry permit. Is it necessary to attend one of the local classes to obtain this
license ? I've had a Ruger for years and have owned firearms all of my life. I've had range training in the military and was an Air Force Police officer for awhile. If I can save the cost
of these classes I'd like too.
