It something that happens over long periods of time, they are a highly invasive species, like alewives, or zebra's. It similar to what has happened in lake Huron. Just on a macro scale.
Now days every year it changes....The perch take the biggest hit. Whitefish basically gone, year classes of Lakers missing......Etc. thought they were done, now they are back.
Higgins is a closed system, it is fed by sterile springs, and has a very small watershed. The base of the food chain is limited. Smelt showed up in the 80's by 1990 it was chaos.
