Moot point, since he already bought the combo. I have the exact setup, which I use for shorefishing for bullheads. I wouldn't troll with it - indeed too whippy. That said, my buddy is a tournament muskie fisher. His 11 year old son has a 7' medium heavy Shakespeare with a Zebco 808 spincast on it. Spooled up with 30# braid and a steel leader. They typically jig the North Channel, and his son is hunting channel cats or pike. That setup, after tossing on a Bondy Bait jig landed him not one, but two ski's this past year. Mind you it's a medium heavy, and the Shakespeare setup on sale is a 7' medium.
