I like 10X10 or 12X12 with something that grows quicker in between. Red pines were mentioned. These grow quickly and will eventually loose their lower limbs allowing the Norways to get the space that they want. The problem is that they will be eaten by deer during the winter if they stay in our area.
Given room, Norways get wide and the lower limbs won't die from lack of sunlight.
