Remington model 31

I recently was given a Remington model 31.

The gun is is almost perfect condition However I don't have a stock for it.

The original owner gave me a unfinished stock that he bought to eventually fit however never got around to it.

It's hard wood and oversized so will need vigorous sanding. Any advice? View attachment 245229
