Wanting to buy land - some questions

I'd like to buy some land for recreational use - camping, shooting (gun and bow), etc but am not sure where to start.

I'd like 15-20 acres but I don't know how feasible that is financially for me, so I'd say I'm looking in the 5-10 acre range.

I know in general, the more remote I get (off main road, no utilities, etc) the more I'll get for my money.

I'm not sure where to look, however. What geographical part of the state. I live in Hudsonville/Jamestown, and I want it to be "Up North" - which is subject to opinion.

Does anyone know about acreage that falls under an association? I'm guessing those will be the locations with restrictions, etc. pretty sure I don't want that, right?

I'm looking to get something going this spring, as they're not making land anymore, and I wanna have something by this fall.
