Winter steelhead question

i typically target fall and spring steelhead and almost exclusively fly fish, but with the high water and tough wading I've been doing a lot of float fishing from the bank. I've been mostly drifting jigs and beads with very slim success. My question is how long will you typically dedicate to a hole float fishing and will you drift the same presentation through multiple times adjusting depth or switch jigs or beads while fishing the same hole.
