Scoring*
Every deer killed and entered according to the rules will be worth 5 pts. Each participant is allowed to enter one (1) antlered buck and one (1) antlerless deer or, two (2) antlerless deer, but no more than 2 deer total*. Participants will be able to enter a buck that replaces their second antlerless entry. Participants can also upgrade firearm killed antlerless with archery killed antlerless (these are the only upgrades allowable). Antlered and antlerless are defined by the MDNRE.
*New this year!! A second antlered deer can be entered; however, it will be scored as an antlerless. Once you enter a buck and designate it as your “antlered” entry, it cannot be re designated as an antlerless and “upgraded” later with a buck worth more points.
A 2 pt. premium will be awarded to participants that kill their deer with archery equipment (compounds, recurves, long bows, and crossbows).
Bucks will receive an additional 1 pt for each antler point. Scorable antler points will be at least 1” in length (as defined by the MDNRE).
Example: I killed a doe with my bow, 5 pts for the deer + 2 pts. (archery premium) = 7pts. I also kill a 9 pt. buck with my shotgun. I receive 5 pts for the deer and 9 pts for each score able point on the buck = 14 pts. My total score would be 7 pts (antlerless) + 14 pts. (buck) = 21 pts.

All participants must post a photo of themselves with their deer, weapon, and visible kill tag , on the “2014 Successful Hunter” thread within the 2014 MS Deer Contest forum. The following information must accompany the photo. MS user name, team number (team name optional), and number of scorable points on bucks (close ups may be requested to verify points).
Every attempt will be made to update the “2014 MSDHC Official Score” thread within the 2014 MS Deer Contest forum. If “pending” appears in read next to a participants name this indicates that the entry needs more information to be verified before the score can be added and a pm has been sent to the team captain and entrant.
