Fujitsu Tablet Prototype Lets You Feel Rough and Smooth Textures on Screen

Fujitsu has rolled out a prototype tablet that has a cool bit of tech inside. The tablet has haptic sensory technology inside that allows you to feel images on the screen. Users are able to feel smooth or rough textures depending on what is displayed on the screen.

The tablet uses ultrasonic vibrations to create a cushion of high-pressure air between the finger and the screen. That air acts like a cushion and makes the screen feel very smooth. Depending on what image is on the screen, the vibrations can be rapidly cycled to create the feeling of a rough surface.

Fujitsu is showing the tech off at Mobile World Congress 2014 with several images that do things like allow the user to feel the skin of an alligator, pluck virtual strings on a harp, or feel the sensation of opening a combination lock.

Inceptor Board Game is Based on Inception: BRAAAAHMM

Nope, you’re not dreaming. An independent group called Pilot Study is working on Inceptor , a competitive board game for two to five players. Based on Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi heist movie Inception, the game is about assembling a team of specialists who will plant an idea in someone’s mind.

In Inceptor, players are randomly given a mission card. The mission card indicates the idea you have to plant and the number of cards of each job – signified by different colors – that you have to get in order to plant said idea. For instance, in the mission card below you need three Architect i.e. blue cards, four Forger i.e. green cards and so on. Players will then go around the board, and at certain spots will be given a chance to randomly draw these colored cards.

Just like in the movie, each of these jobs are accomplished at different levels of the victim’s dream. Once you have enough cards for a certain job, you can then go to the dream level – represented by the concentric circles on the game board – where that job is to be completed and finish that part of your mission to get points. Jobs that require more cards net you more points.

The moment any player completes all four jobs in his mission, the endgame or “Final Kick” takes place. Just like in the movie, all players have to get out of the victim’s mind. This is done by going to the first or outermost dream level within a set number of turns. Otherwise he will be stuck in limbo. Mechanics-wise, this means a certain number of points will be deducted from each player who gets stuck in limbo.

Even if multiple players complete all four parts of their mission, only one idea can be fully planted in the poor victim’s mind. I don’t know how this idea will be chosen, but the player whose inception is successful will get bonus points. That’s the gist of the game, but there are other rules and mechanics that I didn’t discuss here.

Twirl your browser and pledge at least $49 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a copy of Inceptor as a reward. A pledge of at least $99 will get you The Chemist edition, which includes the aluminum briefcase shown in the video.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date and Specs Announced

Samsung today took wraps off it’s hotly-anticipated Galaxy S5 smartphone. But instead of focusing on software bells and whistles, the company says the phone is all about the things consumers want most – fast network connectivity, a great screen and camera, and durability.

Compared with the S4, the Galaxy S5 will offer a slightly larger 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, and will be powered by a 2.5 GHz Quad Core CPU, running Android 4.4.2 (Kitkat). The phone’s battery has been stepped up from 2600mAh to 2800mAh, and there’s even a “super power save” mode which will drop the display down to black and white and turn off various features when you want to get the most possible life. Its also had both cameras upgraded – the front camera is now 2.1MP, while the rear is 16MP. Autofocus time has also been improved to as little as 0.3 seconds. Also, according to its spec sheet, it can capture UHD video at 30fps. We’re assuming this means 4K.

The Galaxy S5 supports 802.11ac and 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi connectivity, and a new feature called “Download Booster” which can combine data transmission over LTE and Wi-Fi simultaneously for greater throughput (though this will eat up data on your data plan when activated). It’s also got an upgraded fitness package called S Health 3.0, which includes tools like a pedometer, diet and exercise tracking and even a built-in heart rate monitor.

The design of the new phone is definitely more refined than the prior model in my opinion, and has a textured pattern on the back of its case to not only give it a better grip, but to make it more distinctive than past models. You can choose from a variety of colors, including black, white, blue and copper-gold to start.

Perhaps the best new feature of the Galaxy S5 isn’t its design or under the hood, it’s the fact that it’s now IP67 dust and water resistant – which should make it much harder to damage the phone. Though it’s still not fully waterproof, like the underwater-friendly Sony Xperia ZR.

Samsung hasn’t yet revealed pricing for the Galaxy S5, but has said the phone will be available this April 11, in both a 16GB and 32GB versions. For now, there’s no plan to release a 64GB model, though the phone’s microSD slot can add up to 64GB of additional storage.

ForeverNOT Lets You Place Bets on Relationships

You know someone gets into a relationship, and you think to yourself that there’s no way it’s going to last? It’s cruel, but not as cruel as actually saying it out loud and betting on it. But that’s exactly what ForeverNOT wants you to do.

ForeverNot App0 620x338magnify

It’s a new app that lets users anonymously bet on whether or not their friends’ relationships will last. If you’re not one to judge your friends or their relationships, then perhaps you might be more comfortable with passing judgement on celebrity couplings, like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, for instance.

The app itself is simple enough to use: just hit F for ‘Forever’ and N for ‘Not’ when the couple’s page is brought up. It then displays the overall odds that the relationship will last.

ForeverNOT can be downloaded for free from iTunes.
