Tagging Your Deer With Your License

How come so many people improperly place their tag/license on their deer? The CO or anybody, even the processor, must be able to read everything on that tag. Wrapping it around the antlers is not being tagged properly. Around a leg on the fur. Nope. Myself, I get a cable tie and fold the tag in half with the tie in the center of the tag and either cut a small slot in the ear or cut the achilles tendon in the back. Slide the cable tie through and connect both ends. It's easy to read for anyone. And it's tagged legally. You get a CO having a bad day and he could write a ticket or give a lecture in properly tagging your animal. I see many deer pictures on here with tags in all kinds of places. Just trying to help. Not trying to be a jerk. Just some info.:)

favorite slugs

If you hunt with a slug gun what is your go to slug.... mine used to be the brenekee golds but they discontinued them so now this week gotta head to the range and figure out what to try. I'm not one to spend 15 to 20 bucks for 5 shells IMO it's not a must as the golds cost 10 bucks and I've killed probably a dozen or more deer without any issues. Any suggestions out there? My gun is a 1187 Remington with rifled hastings barrel open sights farthest shot in my opening day stand is 70 yards. Looking for the obvious accuracy and knockdown power.... thinking on trying the new brenekee crush... and maybe light field.... Hornady sst? Any helpful suggestions is appreciated.

WSP 11/3 to 11/7

Sorry for the late report, but I've been a little busy the couple days and didn't have the time to sit down and type out a report. I hit a WSP on Monday and was fortunate enough to get into some fall steelhead. Went 2 for 3 and was back home in time for an early lunch. Went back out to the same pier on Tuesday and did the same thing, except I went 3 for 3 this time. South winds were blowing hard that day, but the north pier was protected and relatively calm. Pink spawn bags were the ticket. On Wednesday and Thursday I hit up another WSP and landed a total of 5 on (you guessed it) pink spawn bags. Hit up the river for a couple hours on Friday and went 2 for 4. A couple of those hits were on spawn under a bobber and the other two hits were on Oslo spinners. Also saw other steelhead as well as a couple of greasy lakers landed. It was funny watching anglers reel them in because they thought they had snagged a rock or waterlogged branch as they reeled them in.

All in all, it was a good vacation. I ended up keeping five hens for eggs and grilled fish as well as one male. The rest were released. Again, sorry for the late report, but my purpose was to convey the fact that there are fish in the rivers and around the piers right now. Of course, some days will be better than others, but they are there. Spawn, spawn, spawn was the name of the game. Lures also had their place.

I'm sure there will be more to come with the next big rain.

Good luck to all and tight lines.

Question about DNR CO's

Searched the site and Google and whatnot. Couldn't find the answer so I figured I'd ask the experts. Is there a way to find the number of CO's for a given district or county? Wondering what the man power is for responding to complaints.

Won't go into details on an open forum but I called the RAP number this morning. Wasn't a big poaching complaint or anything but more of a question about what someone was doing (was being a complete moron and was pretty sure he was doing something illegal). The woman I talked to was very nice but couldn't answer my question. Said she would see if anyone was available in the area to come check things out. I also wouldn't mind meeting the local CO where I hunt quite a bit. No one ever showed up (didn't really expect them too as I know our DNR is very understaffed).

I know the state is broken up into multi county districts but how do they determine how many CO's are assigned to a given district or county?

Trapping Store?

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone knows of any places that carry trapping supplies. I'm in Macomb( SE ) the gander mountain and BPS near me doesn't carry anything. I'm just trying to find somewhere that I can pick up a few odds and ends like dye, bait/lures, maybe a few traps. I will order online if I have to but I just figured I would see if you guys know anywhere.

Thanks
