You can still catch fish on harnesses in cooler weather just slow it down a little.

As for the motors... hard to say how fast you'll go at idle with a 50 horse. I assume that means you're in a 16' boat. Which means you'll have to pick your days on the lake. 12v trolling motor might get you a couple hours at 1.0-1.3 mph.

I guess I'd try to go slow enough that the blade barely spins until late April into May.
