They are a cultivar of pyramidalis, that are deer resistant. Nearly deer proof. Little darker green and more course but very Hardy. Little slower growth also.
Planted many in the NLP when I was in that line of work, never had a problem. In fact I dug them field grown, unprotected in Houghton lake and Pigeon Mich.
There's another deer resistant variety, but I don't recall the name.
