Reel choices - this may sound strange

Has anyone considered trying one of the Black Betty (ice fishing) reels as a float reel for steelhead fishing? Line flows off these very freely. I would think you could get a very nice drift while float fishing. My big concerns are maximum drag pressure that can be applied. Is it enough? Finally, are these made durable enough to handle steelhead? They're great reels for panfish thru the ice, just don't know if they would/could hold up to steelhead.
Of course, advantages are a drag...
