Scott Bishop "Bish" put out some directions if you do a search here you may be able to find it.

You can use a spade shovel in softer sandy soils, just work the shovel into the ground and work it back and forth creating a slice in the ground. Trim the longer roots with scissors or pruners so you don't J-root them and stuff the 2-2 into the ground and compact each side with your foot .

Harder clay soils we have rented post hole diggers.
