Tiller Outboard

I would be very concerned about that much extra weight on the transom in that small of a boat. The older boats were rated for HP not by engine power, but by weight as estimated by the power of the engine, and 4 strokes were not even an option back then. I hope that made sense as I'm not sure how to say that.

I have a 14' (74" beam, 20" transom, she's a tank) that's rated for 40 Hp. If I put a 40 Hp 4-stroke on her, it would be the same as me standing op top of the 63# 2-stroke 15 horse currently hanging off the transom, as they run up to and over 250# now. That's a lot of weight way far back, put me in the stern next to that motor netting a fish in a following sea, and well, I know a guy who sunk a 19' doing something like that.

If you could figure out what an old 1985 40 Hp 2 stroke weighed, that would be the weight I would be worried about exceeding.

Note, for giggles we moved my dad's 30 Hp 2-stroke over to my boat and took it for a spin. That was fun! Trolling, not so much...
