What's worked for me in the past is moving into not only a slightly heavier jig (5/8 or 3/4), but also upping the size of the plastic and/or shiner. I'm going to try some of those fat paddle tail plastics in dirty water this Spring on the DR; we came up on some guys from Iowa last year just down from Wyandotte that were smashing the pigs in deep dirty water along the channel edge on large presentations fished very slowly along the bottom. 1 oz jigs with a big fat paddle tail plastic....who would have thought to try that? Not me, that's for sure.
