New MEIJER open in Manistee

The official Grand Opening isn't until May 3rd, however they did open for business today.
At the corner of 131 and M55 it's now only a 15-20 minute or so drive from the Wellston area.

Scheduled to be open 24 hours, it will save you travelers having to haul so many essentials from home, or getting off the freeway for that last minute item you forgot or misplaced.

What did you and your wife do on your 49th Anniversary Jim?
After an afternoon at the Casino we explored the new Meijer on the way home. Brand new handicap carts were fully charged. Ah, life in the North...

I was fortunate to be able to get out last night with my brother and pull off another double. I had great time in the turkey woods with him and our success was an added bonus.

Grand Traverse Bay questions

Couple questions about GT Bay... How good is the fishing out there around early/mid may? In particular I was planning on fishing out from the mouth of the Boardman.

If it's not worthwhile to fish this early, when is about the time to do so? Work and school made my fishing last year very limited so I'm itching to get the kayak out somewhere.

Just wondering if the ice is out of Munising Bay or at least has left the shoreline. Want to open the cabin up next week and do some shore fishing.

Slumpbuster

Bagged one today after 2 consecutive years of tag soup. Had a real nice tom hang up at 70 that I was hoping to get but no dice. Ended up calling in 2 smaller toms a little later. This guy took a dirt nap at 47 yds. My longest kill shot to date. Longbeard XR #6s did the trick and he dropped like a sack of potatoes. Beard a little over 8" and spurs right around 1". Not my biggest, but felt good nonetheless after struggling the past few years. State land mid-michigan.

And yes he was promptly tagged after I snapped the pic...

NWTF Gives Testimony During House Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry Hearing

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) Chief Conservation Officer Becky Humphries testified today at the House Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry’s public hearing about the National Forest System and active forest management.
The committee invited the NWTF to speak because of its leadership and expertise in active forest management. The NWTF is a leader in the Stewardship Contracting Program with the U.S. Forest Service, partnering on 81 projects nationwide in the last decade.
The NWTF recognizes the role that active, sustainable forest management plays beyond economically supporting local communities.
“Throughout the United States, we are losing forest diversity on a landscape-level scale, threatening habitat for species like the wild turkey, golden-winged warbler, New England cottontail, gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker and many more,” said Humphries. “Active management of our federal forests reduces devastating wildfire, reduces insect and forest disease, and increases forest health and diversity.”
The management of healthy forests is made economically viable through the harvest and sale of forest products and timber.
“Timber sales offset the costs of reforestation, invasive species control, prescribed fire and timber stand improvements. No forest management at all will result in more wildfire, decreased forest health, more endangered species, water quality decline, and fewer mills to supply the demand for wood products,” said Humphries. “If federal forests are not managed, devastating wildfires and insect and disease epidemics will spread to adjacent state and private forestlands, sinking that investment as well.”
The NWTF and Humphries recommended that federal agencies expand collaborative efforts in both planning and implementation, plan work at a landscape scale for better results, and use the tools that Congress has provided to the fullest extent possible.
Humphries also asked Congress to address the way that they fund wildfire suppression, and asked them to allow broader use of categorical exclusions for forest management practices with a known record of impacts, and to consider arbitration as an alternative to costly litigation.
To read the entire written statement, view the statement in PDF form.
The issue of proper forest management is critical to the NWTF achieving objectives outlined in its Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative. Sustainable forest management is critical to providing quality habitat for the future of wild turkey and other wildlife, and ensuring there are sustainable populations for continued hunting.
About Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.

The NWTF Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative is a charge that mobilizes science, fundraising and devoted volunteers to give the NWTF more energy and purpose than ever. Through this national initiative, NWTF has committed to raising $1.2 billion to conserve or enhance more than 4 million acres of essential upland wildlife habitat, create at least 1.5 million hunters and open access to 500,000 acres for hunting, shooting and outdoor enjoyment. Without hunters, there will be no wildlife or habitat. The NWTF is determined to Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.

deer fence

Most probably don't know but we have a much older company here at the facility that makes culvert, been here over a hundred years. We have a lot of dirt fenced in here (31 acres) and in the back is where old and unwanted things go to die. I was just back there this morning and found something someone may want.

Although I don't utilize the snow fence trick I know others do. This stuff may be too short but there's probably 20 rolls of really old erosion control back there. Free to anyone that thinks it may work.

How to wax a bow string by 60X Custom Strings

Waxing your bow string is an essential part of bow maintenance and knowing How to Wax a Bow String properly is as critical as the wax itself. This applies to all types of bows including compounds, crossbows, recurve and longbows. Waxing your bow string will extend the life of your bow string by keeping it from becoming frayed, damaged by dirt or water and will help to keep the strands from becoming dried out and less flexible. Waxing your bow string is very simple to do and only takes a couple minutes of time. Here is a quick rundown on how to wax a bow string.
The first thing is to make sure that your bow string is clear of any dirt or debris. This can be done by wiping with a clean dry cloth. Another little trick is to take a scrape piece of bow string serving material. If you do a half wrap with the bow string serving and lightly pull it down the bow string you will see dirt and old wax being removed.
Next you want to take your tube of bow string wax and rub it up and down on your bow string. You want to make sure the bow string wax is sticking far enough out of the tube that the tube itself is not contacting your bow string. Letting the tube rub on the bow string will cause premature wear. You want to apply a good amount wax but be careful not to overdo it. Ideally you want to make sure the bow string wax covers the bow string with a thin coat. While doing this you only want to wax the exposed portion of the bow string. You want to make sure that you do not wax any of the bow string servings.
Now that you have wax on your bow string you want to take your finger and thumb and just rub the wax into the bow string. The heat and friction will cause the bow string wax to melt and make it easier for the wax to penetrate each individual strand and cover the entire bow string. Some will recommend to use a piece of leather instead of your fingers but I have found that you can build up quite a bit more heat with leather. By using your fingers you will not add excess heat to your bow string which could contribute to premature wear. If your fingers get hot you will stop and your bow string will thank you.
Once all of the wax has been rubbed in you can take the cloth you started with and wipe off any excess wax that might have built up. This will usually be where the bow string meets the servings. By keeping your bow string waxed it will last longer and perform better. It's a great idea to regularly wax your bow string. How often will depend on how much you shoot your bow and the age of your bow string. In general the more your shoot and the older your bow string is the more you will need to keep it waxed. Stay tuned for more helpful archery articles from 60X Custom Strings. You can contact us at 60X@60XCustomStrings.com or visit our blog at http://ift.tt/1JQvMEN

Slow

We had a no fish morning of jigging from 6:30-11. I cruised to the Canadian Peche Island channel first. No boats, graph marked nothing, and the water was pretty muddy. So we started fishing the cow pasture with 4-5 other boats. Saw one caught (he said they had 2). After 45 minutes we ran to the Whiskey plant. 2 boats and muddy waters. We shot over to Chene. Clear blue water and 6 boats fishing. We fished down to the Post Office, repeating a couple of runs where we saw a net go down. No hits. Only 4 nets were seen going down. 1 boat had 3, another 2, 2 others 1. I'm sure some did well on the upper, but not me nor anyone I saw or talked to.

Fire And Water Do Mix

I thought I would share a few new designs.
Here is a reboot of my red inferno design that is proving to be a pretty hot commodity on the river banks.

 -

Here is a float I spent a lot of time on. It is proving to be my most difficult and troublesome design. Too bad it's becoming my most popular.

 -

This last one is my driftwood pattern. The name of this float "The Drifter" is a play on words that runs very deep... :)

Disk leveling attachment

While looking at some of the larger ag equipment I have noticed most disks, soil finishers and vertical tillage implements have some sort of leveling/finishing attachment hanging off of the back of them. Usually a spike or spring toothed harrow or a rolling basket.

I figuired if it works for them why not try to build on to hang off the back of my disk. So after a few trips to Alro steel I had all I needed to begin fabrication.

The main tube to which the teeth are attached to is 3", 1/4" wall tubing. The tubing was all random drops so I had to join two pieces to make the main bar.
Attachment 78311
Attachment 78312

Next was building the hinges. I used clevis mounts welded to 2" tubing for the hinges. They are welded to 3"x7" 3/8" plate to be able to is u bolts to attach them to the back of the disk.
Attachment 78313

All that was left to do was to build the arms off of the main bar to attach to the hinges u bolted to the disk frame. I used 2" tube to build the arms.

I was able to use it a little this past weekend and I works well, I believe if I add a little more weight to it it will work excellent. In all it accomplished exactly what I had hoped for, which is a more finished seed bed in one pass than a disk alone can accomplish.

I have about $230 and 7 hrs into the build.

Looking for lease in Southern Michigan many counties

Hi all,

I know as usual this is a long shot but myself and a few friends/family are looking for a lease in Southern Michigan. The reason we are resorting to a lease is because in the last 2 season we have lost over 300 acres due to the sale of land to non-hunters as well as an untimely passing of the landowner where we hunted for 15 years.

Together we have well over 75 years of combined hunting experience, QDM and are up to date on all rules and regulations in our state.

We are looking for 40+ acres in any of the following counties: Oakland, Lapeer, Jackson, Livingston, Washtenaw, Genesee, St. Clair or any others close to there.

Anyone that may have land and is willing or might know friends or family members that would be greatly appreciated.

Different Brass Affecting Accuracy?

Been doing a lot of loading and shooting with my .44s (rifle and pistol).
I've collected lots of different brands of brass. I have an RCBS case trimmer and have trimmed all of them to the same length. If everthing else is the same will using different brands affect accuracy?

Boat purchase

Got a question? I'm looking to purchase a used fishing boat. I saw a 2006 Lund 1700 fisherman with 90HP honda motor priced at 13,000. Is this a good price and is this a good boat? I was looking to just buy a new outboard motor for my older ward aluminum boat, but for the price of a new motor $3000 I'm thinking about just buying a boat. If anyone has any input about this boat or suggestions about boat purchasing I would truly appreciate it.

Skillet Salmon

Just did up dinner, turned out great!
Took skinless fillet about 4" wide and patted them dry. Seasoned the skin side with lemon pepper then the other side with kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper. Got my skillet smoking then added a couple tablespoon of evoo, placed skin side up for about a minute and a half then flipped for two minutes. Took a third of a stick of butter melted and added about 4 cloves garlic minced and 4 or 5 sprigs of rosemary stripped. Spooned that across the tops of the fillet then placed the pan in a 450 degree oven for about 7 minutes. I plated the fish and drizzled some of the pan juices over the fillets.... wife absolutely loved it, told me I need to catch more... went great with roasted broccoli and crispy oven fries...

Coming to a port near you. After the dismal king fishery in northern lake michigan and charter boats decimating the local laker stock. The feds. Monster turkey.....or at least I think it is. Need opinions.

Hello, I'm new to this form and also turkey hunting in general so please forgive my ignorance and I hope I loaded the pictures correctly.

I got this bird in Saugatuck township in Allegan County Michigan on 4-26-15 @ 7:15pm and it's the biggest turkey I've see at least in this neck of the woods. I was wondering if this would be considered a average Tom or really damn big.

Here's some mesuments:

Weight: 23 1/2 lbs
Beard: 9 1/2 inches
Spurs: 1 1/8 inches

I think I should of gotten it recorded before I dressed it, but I didn't so all I have are pictures and my word. I will say this thing made the others in the flock look like miniture turkeys. I also harvested 6lbs of meat just from the breast.

Sorry if if this is nothing special to y'all but I'm stoked as can be. Thanks

Anyone want to help me out?

I have a couple spots I usually Turkey hunt. One was a honey hole that was just pure luck to sit under the roost and get them on their way out to a Metro Park...No birds there this year.

My other spot - there are birds everywhere, at least 3 gobblers in the immediate area and a half dozen hens around - problem is I can't get the gobbler off the hens and my calling is not good enough to lure him.

Anybody who's tagged out want to help a brother out calling? I have until Sunday to hunt private land in the ZZ unit - I didn't bag any game last year and really want to put one down this year....

MOMC Spring Walleye Classic Recap and Results

The Spring Walleye Classic was held on Sunday, April 26th at the DYC. It was a tougher bite than years past due to the cold front. This made for some competitive fishing and a lot of moving to find the big ones.

We had a 35 boat field this year with max teams of four. The teams ranged from club teams, charter captains, non member teams, to jiggers, and hand liners. This made for some great action and many new fishermen exposed to the MOMC and what it offers.

We finished it up with a great lunch from the DYC and Awards. Bill Shrader of the DYC Rod and Gun club, welcomed us at the awards luncheon. We presented him with an Ameriprise Financial Custom Filet Board for all of his support with the Walleye Classic, Special Olympics Derby, and Operation Musk-E-Meet for Injured and Retired Soldiers. Thank you Bill.

The awards to the winners were presented and as follows;

1st Place Team Bohica 24.45 lbs

2nd Place Team Live Action 24.40 lbs

3rd Place Team Worm Killaz 23.75 lbs

Big Fish Sponsored by http://ift.tt/1GpqwF0

Team Live Action 7.70 lbs

We had a tie and it went to a measure off.

Live Action won by ¼ inch at 27 ¼”

Thank you to Eric Woodhouse who Chaired the event. He was assisted by Ed Pascua and Joel Piatek. Inspectors Tim Schwark, Tim Ardanowski, Greg Virga, and Lenny Baumgarten. Weigh Masters Jim Flemming and Jim Schiller. Trailer Duty Frank.

My "Michigan" Ultimate

Just a quick range report from today. Winds we gusty but still the lightest it's been on a weekend lately so I set up to shoot at 200yds today.

It was my first time shooting since I bought the gun a few weeks ago and I was very impressed. 4 of my 5 shots held a one inch group using a lead sled!

Very soon I will open her up to 300yds and see what I'm capable of. As of right now I'm just blown away by the ability of this gun. I was so geeked I call Encore and he said 1" ...you need some practice. Just kidding!

pier success on steelies an indication of summer fishing?

I have caught more steelhead on Saugatuck and S. haven piers than normal. I am thinking this may be an indication of better big lake fishing for steelies this summer? Might this be a result of increased plants, to off-set reduced salmon?

Smallies 4/26

We found them in 2-5', hard bottom with little patches of new weeds that really amounted to just dark splotches on the bottom. we were casting right to rip-rap and seawalls half the time. They wanted nothing to do with finesse presentations, but were eager for rattletraps, and power jerked 12cm 3/4oz shallow running X-Raps. You could tell how many fish were around, 3-4 or more would follow a burned spinnerbait, but they generally wouldn't bite it at any speed. A follow up with the other lures got bitten. The bite was best at the transition from the rougher water in the wind to the lee side of structure. Once the sun hid behind clouds for good, the bite was over. So I am home to grill a steak.:)

Had a great Sunday morning of fishing. Launched at Imerman and started our first drift at Dice and River as the sun was coming up. Managed a steady bite every 15-20 minutes which added up to 15 at a perfect pace. Orange and Pink were the hot jig colors this morning for us. What a great weekend on the titt.

Stolen gear $500 reward. Please read!!!!!

My boat was broken into this week and all of my walleye gear was stolen. They cut a hole in the storage lot at Dixie highway and S holly road in Clarkson. Stolen were six linecounter combos with Shimanoi tekotas and 7 ft rods. Also stolen were two gray/white crank boxes filled with custom deep huskys in one and custom reef runners in the other. There were approximately 500 cranks in each box. Also stolen were spinner boxes and blades, handheld lowrance GPS and plenty of assorted walleye related gear. The lowlife also tried to steal the kicker and main engine prop but apparently wasn't bright enough to figure that out.

I am offering a $500 cash reward for any information that leads to the recovery of my gear. It literally took me a decade or more to get these items only to have some scumbag decide they wanted it more. Please PM me with any info.

Check it out.....

I had a chance to catch John Grudens QB Camp show today on ESPN. He featured both Winston and Mariotta. Excellent show, if anybody has the time and it comes on again, I would suggest tuning in if you like this type of thing. He also had Bryce Petty in the following show. I really like Gruden and his analysis and input on football and the technical break down of the QB position, its my favorite football show on TV. Very interesting imo.;)

24 volt TM, 12 volt anchor winch. Install question.

I just installed a 24 volt trolling motor and I need to hook up a 12 volt anchor winch and fish finder. My question is can I run the fish finder and anchor winch off of one of the batteries hooked in series or do I need a third battery for the winch and fish finder?

Thanks in advance.

New Minn Kota Terrova

I just bought this motor Minn Kota Terrova 80lb - 60"shaft and used it first time today and I noticed if I go at higher speeds between 7 and 10 setting, the motor starts vibrating and gets noisier. I just wonder if this is normal with this type motor. When it was shipped, the box was damaged and it looks like it might have been dropped, that's why I want to know if it might have been damaged and if I should it exchange it. I used to own Motor Guide and did not have this vibration and noise at higher speeds. Any comments or information would be appreciated.

Osprey

I saw this in a tree at the wood edge quite a distance from my house when I got back from turkey hunting. It was too big for a crow, so I thought it might be a turkey. I got up pretty close to him for some pictures. If he can catch bluegills? I guess it’s time to flip the boat over.

New Knight 500

I just received a response from Knight.
"I have not been given a release date on it. You can watch for it on the website. They will put it up as soon as it is available. Thanks".
I'm going to sell my scoped Rem UML and a ton of extra stuff very reasonably to get the $ to buy one of these. [Anybody interested?] I'm thoroughly pleased with the UML and it's very accurate, but a 1:18 fast twist .45 like the Knight will have, has been the ideal long range M/L combination since the 1860's. Even in Black Powder Cartridge Rifle competition, fast twist .45's are used by almost everybody for a reason....nothing works better. Somebody contact me. The UML has to find a new home. X

Yamaha 9.9 kicker cost?

I'm looking to add a Yamaha 9.9 kicker to my new boat and was wondering what I should expect to fork out for one with full controls at the helm? Anyone price these out lately? A rough quote over the phone at my local dealer was in the ball park of $4400. Is this a reasonable price?

Agency: Natural Resources -

April 22, 2015

Bay City State Recreation Area soon will have a pop-up camper available for reservation, thanks to a donation of repairs from Tri-City RV. The cost is $55 per night and the camper accommodates three to four people and includes two beds, a table and booth seating and a kitchen sink.

Tri-City RV donated nearly $1,000 in repairs. The camper will be available for reservations after May 26, 2015.

"This new offering will be a great option for visitors who don’t have their own camper," said George Lauinger, park manager. "In addition to our mini-cabins, the pop-up camper provides guests a convenient camping experience without having to pack a tent or haul a camper."

An $8 fee will be assessed for all advance reservation fees, and campers must have a Recreation Passport on any vehicle entering the campground or the day-use area of the park. To make a reservation when the pop-up camper becomes available or to get more information about the camper, contact the park at 989-684-3020. (Reservations for the camper cannot be made through the online reservation system.)

Bay City State Recreation Area, situated on Saginaw Bay, features a variety of camping and recreation opportunities, a spray park, playscape, reservable picnic shelters, 1 mile of shoreline along Saginaw Bay, and 7 miles of trails. The park also is home to the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center, which offers weekly programs on archery, nature education and more.

Foodplot seed

I am just getting started in food plots, and I was wondering where do most folks get their food plot seed from? I know that places like Cabelas carries some and I'm sure that it is available online though I don't know what the shipping costs are like.
I was looking for some good clover mixes that I could plant primarily on trails and small open areas. Any advice on the source for this type of seed would be appreciated.

Lk. Superior River Report

I fished Monday night in the central UP for a couple hours and had pretty good luck. The water was high, but the clarity really improved over the last few days. The steelies were hitting gravel so the egg bite is on and the browns are starting to get pretty fat. I caught a colored up male,a skip and a nice brown. My friend also got a nice brown right at dusk. Nukes eggs (yellow over orange) worked the best for us.Now we are in for a cold spell and it is currently snowing. I am going to get out again tonight if I can. New mini-exhibit at Michigan Historical Center honors 50th anniversary of the Michigan Court of Appeals

Contact: Sandra Clark 517-373-6362
Agency: Natural ResourcesApril 21, 2015

Opened just this week, a new exhibit on the second-floor atrium of the Michigan Historical Center honors the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Michigan Court of Appeals. “A Court Turns 50”*will run through June 15.

In 1963, Michigan adopted its current state constitution, which added a new item to its Declaration of Rights: “In every criminal prosecution, the accused shall have ... an appeal as a matter of right.”

“No existing court at the time could fulfill the promise of giving everyone the right to appeal,” said Sandra Clark, director of the Michigan Historical Center and curator for the exhibit. “The Michigan Supreme Court, like the U.S. Supreme Court, chooses the cases it will hear. So the new constitution created a new court to hear appeals.”

The new court was elected by voters in 1964 and began reviewing cases in January 1965. Among the items in the exhibit are:
  • Items from the 1961-62 constitutional convention or “Con Con,” including a committee room nameplate for Robert Danhof, who headed the committee that created the Court of Appeals.
  • The first opinion the court issued, Ball v Trenton, from Feb. 10, 1965. The five-page opinion affirmed the lower court’s finding that the new constitution’s prohibition of judges running for election after their 70th birthday applied to municipal court judges. It also affirmed that the election of municipal judges was a local matter, allowing Trenton to proceed with its Feb. 15, 1965, election.
  • Photos of the first chief judge of the Court of Appeals, T. John Lesinski, and the first chief clerk, Ronald Dzierbicki.
  • A photo and campaign pamphlet from 1969 for Robert Danhof who, having helped create the Court of Appeals, served as its second chief judge for nearly 16 years before retiring in 1992.
The museum and visitor parking are on the north side of Kalamazoo Street, two blocks east of M.L. King Jr. Boulevard in downtown Lansing. Weekend parking is free. General admission fees for the Michigan Historical Museum are $6 for adults 18-64, children through age 5 are free, youth ages 6-17 are $2, and seniors 65 and up are $4. Annual passes are available, and there is no admission charge on Sundays. The Michigan Historical Center is part of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Its museum and archival programs help people discover, enjoy and find inspiration in their heritage. It includes the Michigan Historical Museum, 10 regional museums, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preserve, and the Archives of Michigan. Learn more at www.michigan.gov/mhc.

Boat recomendations

I'm considering a new or used boat. I like to river fish the Grand, Muskegon and also want to be able to fish larger waters such as the Muskegon lake and the Detroit river. After looking online at new boats to get some sort of an idea of whats being made and their intended purpose, its apparent that there isn't a perfect boat to own for all of Michigan's waters. Or is there?
I thought that maybe a 16-18 foot flat bottom boat with a jet outboard would be good for the rivers, and that being cautious on the big waters of Muskegon lake and the Detroit river was the answer. Then I thought that wider and longer flat bottoms would be better to handle the rough waters but everything I've read is that a great river boat should be smaller and lighter.
If I bought a deep vee to handle the rough water, it wouldn't be practical for the rivers with a prop outboard.
I'm also thinking that if I went the the longer and wider route on the john, the sidewalls would be higher allowing the john to handle rougher water.
What is your opinion on a great river boat that will handle the rough waters when the wind picks up on larger bodies of water?
Thanks in advance.

Brighton area - help with coyotes in my yard!

Hi Everyone,

I am definitely not a trapper or hunter, and unfortunately, all the outdoorsmen in my family have passed away now...so I'm looking for a little help from the good folks of Michigan.

The last couple, three years or so, we've had coyotes hanging around our neighborhood. Last year, one of them went towards one of my dogs. Luckily I was nearby and it must have decided the crazy lady running and screaming at it made my 5 lb maltese not worth the trouble! I was able to find a good trapper who came and trapped a few coons before catching a coyote (and then he was heading out of town and took the traps out). Anyway, i haven't been able to get in touch with him and we are now spotting the coyotes again.

Can anyone help me? I really don't want to be afraid every time I go outside with my dogs...

Thanks,
JD

Laptop for editing Gopro footage

My 5 year old cheapo laptop isn't cutting it anymore. I have TONS of gopro footage just waiting to be edited and made into videos. Can anyone recommend a laptop that isn't too expensive that will handle editing high-definition 1080p video? I'm hoping to keep it under $500, maybe $700, but my computer nerd buddies tell me I'll need to spend $3,000 to get the right laptop for the job. Keep in mind I'm only making YouTube videos, nothing too fancy.

Thanks!

DNR walleye egg take, LBDN launch update

I went to the Rapid River boat launch this morning to check out the DNR taking walleye eggs for the Thompson Creek Hatchery. Sounded like they had a lot more "by-catch" in the nets today, (meaning pike, suckers, carp, bullheads, and some REALLY nice perch!) They would bring the fish back to shore and sort them by sex and whether they were ready to spawn, or not. After they were sorted, the ripe fish were stripped of eggs and milt, tagged with jaw tags, and released. Would have gotten more and better pictures, but my camera battery died.

Anyway, the bays are pretty much ice free, now. Docks are in at Rapid River. Kipling is still closed. Gladstone harbor has their docks in. Escanaba River is still locked up. Haven't been by Esky harbor, yet. Ford River has docks in and the launch looks good. Cedar River has it's docks in,(been hearing of a few walleyes and browns being caught there.) Sounds like the dock is in on Garden bay, too. No word from Nahma, yet.

Time to get the boats out!

Stinger Size

I have been using #10 stingers on 15 pound test mono for quite awhile now. The past couple of weeks this combo was resulting in only about 50 - 60% landing rate. Both weeks a switch to #8 stingers resulted in 100% landing rates of hook-ups. This past weekend I explored various parts of system all the way from the Ambassador to the Blue Water Bridge to keep these six (20 -26 inches).
What size stingers do you use?
