Manitoba Bear Hunt

I was fortunate enough to get another bear this spring in Manitoba with Bear Track Outfitters.

Saw plenty of bears and this boar was on the bait for 1.5hrs. I had decided this was my bear if he had his fill and started away without any other bears coming in. Once he started away on the trail he came in on I let one fly and took out lungs and heart with a strong quartering away shot. Bear huffed and ran out of sight and sounded like he went up a tree. I sat with my hands cupped around my ears to do my best to track the sound direction and shortly I heard the moan and then silence. Took a few seconds to relax and then hung my bow and started to climb down when I hear branches breaking and a loud thump with an extra moan?? Maybe he did go up a tree??

I climbed down and followed a quick and easy blood trail about 40yds and found my bear under the largest spruce in the swamp(about 2' across at chest level) The blood trail went straight up the tree.

I cleaned the large branch and pine bark off him and positioned him for hero shots, took a few pics and started the 2.5 mile hike out to the road. My guide, Ron Dare, said it happens but is rare that they climb a tree to die but certainly this one did. Great hunt with a great outfitter and I will be back.

Bow is my 56" RMR knock off takedown recurve built by Jess Stuart - 45lb @ 25" with Arrow Dynamic trad lite shafts and Wensel Woodsman broadhead on the businesss end.
