After talking about the self-driving cars and the flying cars with some other guys and gals, it is only appropriate to mention manufacturing car with printers, 3D printers. There was a short interview on the local NPR (WDET - Detroit) station this morning with one of the head honchos of Local Motors. He mentioned a time frame of 44 hours to 3D print what had to be printed. They were hoping to do 100 cars this year. Their next step is to make the cars street legal.
Certainly something that we were not introduced to in any of the Jetson episodes we watched.
I am not sure how much of each vehicle is 3D printed on the spot. I have the feeling that the electrical wiring harness and other assemblies like the motors are manufactured in a more traditional way.
