Well here is a map of my properties. They are the two that are shaded grey. My two properties don't meet directly but are close. My stands are in green. Neighboring competitive stands are in red and watering holes are in blue. Food plots are labeled.
The land to the NE is national forest where the red stand is. The land that contains "deer blind" is owned by my BIL. My BIL is open to ideas but I don't think we would go along with laying waste to lots of oaks.
I have really been laying waste to all jack pines in a line roughly from Cabin to the NE corner of the southerly property. I have also hinge cut some smaller oaks using a zubat and habitat hook with very limited success in keeping them alive.
Habitat is in NW12 with very sandy dry soil. Food plots do well after several years of soil improvement with basic crops such as rye and wheat. Trees consist of lots of oaks followed by jack pines, red pines, and the occasional white pine.
I am frustrated with neighbors picking off bucks we have on camera every year. I have some ideas but would love to hear what the community has to say.
