SB 869 bass season bill passes House 108-1

Great news! SB 869 the bass season bill has passed the entire Michigan House today 108 yes to 1 no. The bass season bill is returned to the Senate to be enrolled in their next journal so it can be sent to Governor Snyder for signing. Both chambers approved immediate effect so as soon as Governor Snyder signs it all the old bass season limits in state law are removed.

We are communicating with Governor Snyder tomorrow to make sure we are still on track with his support of SB 869.

Once he signs SB 869 the NRC will have real authority to create a new Fisheries Order to create a new bass season for 2015. Right now, the options being reviewed to go to the public soon all include some type of year-round bass season for Michigan.

We are waiting for final languages on 2 or 3 options to go to the public very soon, all of which allow some version of year-round Michigan bass season. We have a great deal of support from other angler groups and the politicians.

The odds that we will finally have a year-round bass season in Michigan starting in the 2015 season have greatly improved. Many persons have worked hard to get to this point including Mark Zona and Kevin VanDam among the many others. Thank you very much to Michigan Legislator leadership from numerous elected officials - particularly Senator Hansen and Representative LaFontaine.
