I have heard of lots of guys hunting late season on both water and in a field so which is better? It all depends on the area your scouting. I have realized that over the past years that having a great hunt comes not only down to scouting but patience. Patience is something that every waterfowler should have when hunting late season. As wade borne from ducks unlimited says don't call too much let the ducks work themselves. Calling to much can show the birds that your just like every other hunter that they passed on the way down south. Late season is like the waterfowlers A game and we have to bring all our tricks the either the field or the water. When hunting late season over water either frozen or not you have to keep in mind the sound amplification or the echo of your call off the water in which case you should always bring a softer call when hunting late season. If you see ducks dry feeding in your field that your hunting the next day you always have to keep in mind that brushing your blind in corn, peas or beans is your number one priority. Hunting over smi-frozen water can be very successful if you have the birds and the conditions. Too me hunting late season mallards on open water is the best because we get to use all our knowledge about waterfowl to the test. Late season is one of the best seasons here in Michigan.
