I've got the old gasket scraped off both surfaces and am ready to apply the evinrude gasket compound. The guy at Boaters Value told me to apply a coat of sealant to both sides of the surface of the gasket...
Heres where I'm stuck... the gasket has a lot of surface that will not be touching any surfaces on the inner side (the water jacket cavity around the cylinders).
The question:
Do I apply the sealant to the area that will not be mated to a surface? (Apply to the ENTIRE surface)
OR, do I just apply it to the entire plate surface and then just the mating surfaces of the inside surface contacting the water?
