I have a 1985 Mercury short shaft tiller with electric and pull start. I'm 90% sure the electric start just needs a new starter motor (can those be rebuilt cheap?), but that stopped working mid last summer. Since then I've just been using the pull start. Last Saturday my buddy and I went out fishing. It started up fine, and I let it run for a while. We started across the lake at full throttle and got most of the way across when my buddy signaled me to slow down because he thought it was going to get shallow soon. When I let off the throttle the motor quite and I haven't been able to get it to start since. Seems to have good sounding compression, looks like it is getting fuel fine. Can't seem to find any loose or damaged wires. No spark from either spark plug:sad:. Both coils bad? Any suggestions Of where/how to start looking?:help:
Outboard quite and won't restart. Suggestions?
