I am relatively new to the food plot game. I started with simple clover and have learned and improved that process. Then I went with fall plots and two years ago had an amazing plot of Tall Tine Tubers from Whitetail Institute. This year I am looking to get even more fancy and start mixing plots/seeds.
My question is around the concept of summer (spring) planting my fall plots. I am going to do a similar mix of Tubers and their new product Ambush. But, I have started to see guys who don't leave those fall plots empty for the summer.
I am sure there is a string out there covering this, but I couldn't find it. So, my question. What do guys put in their fall plots during the summer and why?
I have seen Buckwheat, Alfalfa (but concerned about having to cut), Soybeans?
Any suggestions and planting instructions? I don't want to spend a lot of money or time on these plots as they really are just filler for my fall plots. I still have clover out and will plant PowerPlant. So, this only about 2 acres of plots that will have fall turnips, sugar beets, etc. in them when I till and plant in August.
Thanks guys!
