Charlevoix area Salmon

We are headed up to Lake Charlevloix for a week, the second week in August. I will definitely be chasing smallies on Lake C, but wanted to inquire about the Salmon bite at that time of year in Lake Michigan. We had been up there a few years ago, and when i was headed out bass fishing in the AM, a guy and i were talking at the launch and he indicated that the Salmon bite was great just a few miles or less outside of Charlevoix, cement plant area? Might be a nice diversion for the wife and I for a morning or 2, weather/wind permitting.
