Been doing some great lakes shoreline hunting this fall, especially since the early freeze. Did OK on mallards through end of Nov., but last few times saw very few. Plenty of divers around, though, and occasionally they even swung over my spread, though whenever that happened, for one reason or another I wasn't able to get a shot off, or at least a good one.
So with the clearance sales coming up, and possibly people dumping gear on craigslist, I'm thinking about laying in a few diver decoys and targeting them next year. But--my duck "boat" is a kayak, and I can't realistically carry more than a couple dozen decoys on it, and really, I'd prefer to carry less. Is that enough to make a spread that will attract birds, or would I be wasting money and garage space?
