Trail Cam Pics: Which One Would You Shoot?

These pics were taken recently at my farm in Hillsdale County. The pics were taken from the same camera, only nine minutes apart.

I'd like to clearly state that there are no right or wrong answers here. I believe hunters should make their own choices, based on their own standards.

when hunting with firearm i always try and neck shoot .drops them in there tracks. with bow i've always tried for lung shots.my question is,with the crossbow is a neck shot possible. do they have enough KE to drop them in there tracks?we have a BAD coyote problem and i worry about having to leave a animal overnight.(all shots are under 22 yards)

has anyone tried a neck shot?

No Response In Crossbows....So...

Does anyone know of or use a Darton Crossbow. Really nice feel. Seem balanced nice and most of theirs are on the lighter side. Where I like be they aren't far from me. I have an issue I can drive to them. Made in Michigan too.....

I'm picking up the Terminator from a dealer in Glennie this morning. My spine is toast and this is the easiest Xbow to draw with the cocking rope I have tried. The 2014's are sweet. IMO

I've got 2 weeks before another surgery on my spine. I'm hunting my ars off until then!!:thumbup:

Fair day.......

Went to the club for some shooting, wanting to try the Barnes 290gr T-EZ bullets in the H5045LB sabots. I bored around at 200yds, where they shot about 6" high. Groups were satisfactory.

Moved the target to 300yds and shot that range. Bullets still 6" too high and group size at 4". There's something to be said for BC and weights with bullets. The 10gr lighter Barnes, with a BC of .223, vs the WM 300grs and a BC of .250.

After I finished up boring around and realized what time it was, and that I had to get my ask home to do leaves before it rained/snowed, I fired 3 WM bullets at 300 yards.

Tape covers one bullet hole, but its there.

Sandusky area Public Access Questions

I was wondering if anyone out there has hit this area for waterfowl? I have had some conflicting reports as to accessing the area. What is the depth of most of the marshy areas? How close can you get to drag a boat to the water?

Thanks in advance...

I assume the water clarity has improved? MODIS satellite shots are not clear last couple of days to tell and last Saturday the NC was murky. North winds Friday and Saturday could screw it up again. Sunday morning I will be on NC to MC from boat.

Thoughts on the Ebola nurse?

Everyone seems to be hush hush on the Ebola nurse who wants to defy a quarantine. Personally, I think she's an arrogant, wants publicity beeeeotch! You arrive at the airport with a 101 degree temperature from treating Ebola patients and you expect not to be quarantined???? Says she was "flustered", which is why she had a fever. Yeah, if you're such a beeeotch, I bet she's always running a temperature. And I just love how Christie responded to the press' questions! Love that guy! I hope they cuff and stuff her and put her in a sound-proof quarantine room and let her piss and moan all she wants!

Funniest thing is how the press is trying to deal with it, especially the far right. She's almost the epitome of your text book tea bagger, but they don't know how to handle her. Support her or run from her??? Listening to the media deal with it is hilarious.

Thoughts on the Ebola nurse?

Let her walk

There is an excellent editorial by Curtis Wells the editor of Bowhunter magazine in the October 2014 issue, about letting does walk. I couldn't get a link to it through my phone. Will try to do it later from home. But many on here should read it.

Looking to see if anyone knows if there are professionals that will just gun train your dog. I have been working with her on basic obedience and she's doing great. She will fetch and loves bird wings and dead ducks ( still haven't introduced her to live birds yet ) . I don't want to mess her up with the shooting just looking to see if I could send her away just for that ?

College Football Committee Poll

well today is the first time we get to see whats on the minds of the committee. i predict that when the first poll is released there will be a barrage of whining and complaining from all over the country. i do think however that by Dec. 7th that everything will have worked itself out and the majority of people will be happy with the games we will have in front of us. i cant imagine that the first poll will look much different from what we see right now in the AP poll but i think that will change after all the sec teams play each other. i think the first poll will look like this...

1. Miss State

2. Fla State

3. Auburn

4. Oregon

...but it wouldnt shock me if those irritating domers found their way in there somehow and obviously Bama could be in there. it would shock me to see Ole Miss, TCU, or Mich State in there at this point but that could change in the coming weeks. its kinda weird to me to even have the poll come out at this point because the poll is designed to give us what will be 4 team playoff but this current poll could have 4 completely different teams by seasons end. if the poll comes out and has 3 SEC west teams in the top 4 then we know for sure that it wont be going down that way. it will be interesting to see how they vote and if they give us somewhat of a projected poll or if they just give us what they see as the top 4 as they see it to this point. its gonna be a fun college football season i think.

Duck Depression

Well duck season has been open now for a couple weeks. I was out opening day down at point Mouillee. Opening day was good, we ended up shooting 10. Since then it has gotten very slow down here. I was out last Saturday and we shot one teal, and that was literally the only duck we seen all day. Is everyone else in this area experiencing this duck lull?

Gobies

Wife and I were able to get out Friday morning in Ohio near the water intake. We started in 18' of water and she was getting bites but not hooking them.....I was trying to play with my fishfinder.LOL.

Finally we both getting bites but unable to hook them. I switched rods and had smaller hooks and she hooked the first Goby. I then hook one and we move. Same thing in that spot. 2-3 times we moved until she hooked a Sheephead and then a yellow perch. We ended up keeping only 19 but not one Goby in the 12' of water we ended up in.

Anyone else having troubles with Goby bait stealers?

Any solutions?

Thank you all.....GREAT to get out anyway.

I Hate This Forum!

Coming here depresses me. This forum is a microcosm of what America has become. We're divided down so called party lines but, sadly the joke is on all of us! They have us right where they want us, divided and too stupid to realize it. The two party system is a sham. I use to be a proud Republican but, all I can say to that is, what have they done to benefit any of us in the past several years? NOT MUCH!

Don't give me any of that "we can't get anything done" crap because of the Senate, blah, blah, blah crap. The Republican party has failed this country just as much as the Democrat party has! And lest you think I write this only to criticize the GOP don't think so fast. The libtard Democrats suck too.

It is my hope that Americans wake up and begin to unite and hold these @ss clowns accountable for the massive pile of sh|t that they have driven this country into! Be you a Democrat, a Republican, or whatever you choose to call yourself, you're first and foremost an American! It's time we come together and started acting that way!

expandable and quivers?

Dumb question. I have shot the G5 montecs since they came out. This year I drank the kool-aid and bought the Havocs. I practiced with both thus summer. My 6-7 sits this year I have used the fixed, but I am antsy to try my new Havoc expandables. Yesterday between morning and afternoon sits I thought about making the change for the rut.

My dumb question....when I push my Havocs in my quiver won't it engage the expansion? Or does it need a lot more pressure than that quiver? I have 3 arrows with the fixed Montec CSs on them and three with the Havocs, but haven't put the Havocs in the quiver?

Help anyone?

Muskegon 10-24 Good Trip

Went with a buddy Friday out of Muskegon. Set lines in about 90 feet at 9:00 after a slow, rough ride into the waves. Had second rigger just set at 50 feet down when it went off with a 7 lb king on a glow froggy spoon. Ten minutes later the 3 color goes off on a mixed veggie/black spots took a 10 lb king. Fifteen minutes later had a double going off the riggers on the same glow froggy and a mixed veggie set at 70. Half hour later picked up another king on a small blue dolphin slider off the 70 foot rigger. Had a couple other knockoffs on the riggers, and picked up one more king, but then they died. That’s when the short lead cores took over. A two color with a snap weight took a few steelhead on an orange/silver spoon, and the 3 color took some more as well. Also lost 4 or 5 on the same lead core rigs. Ended up with 9 nice fish. Never went deeper than 130 feet and caught most of them in 115 to 125. Didn’t matter which direction we went as fish were caught going all directions. Only saw one other boat out. Waves weren’t too bad after setting up and was a great way to end the season. Time to winterize the boat and pack it in for another season.

Best Pain Medications / Supplements

We own 7 GSPs. Our oldest female is now 12 year old. She has always kept up with the others in the pack until lately. Bill exercises them all regularly and they are all in good shape physically as far as weight and muscle tone. The problem lately is that you can see that she is getting stiffer in her joints after a hunt. She loves to hunt and cries more when you do NOT take her. We realize that her time left with us is PRECIOUS, but we would prefer to not have her in pain after she does what she loves to do. This problem is new for us. In the past, we have never had to use any pain meds and/or supplements for any of our older dogs.

I know that there are others on the forum with much more experience in this area.

I would appreciate some advice.

My question is: What products (prescription or over-the-counter) have other sporting dog owners used that they find works great for their elder dogs after a couple of hours out hunting? What would you recommend to relieve the inevitable pain, swelling and stiffness of an aging dog? Do you keep them on it all the time, or just before, during and/or after a hunt for a certain length of time?

I have looked online for an answer, but there are just too many products out there.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Only used minnows and best luck was on drop shot ice spoons.

Night time hotgun shells other than "Dead Coyote"?

I've heard a lot guys saying they use Dead Coyote rounds for night time hunting but about fell over when I seen the price:SHOCKED:! I've heard of a few rumors of guys just using waterfowl rounds. After doing a quick search on the web I found these-

http://ift.tt/1DJuoBC

They are 12ga 3" T shot size made of steel (the only difference I can see is steel instead of heavy metal and around 50fps slower which I don't think anyone would notice). Price difference is around $20 for a box of 20 for the steal compared to around $50 for a box of 10 for the heavy metal!

Thoughts? Anyone try the steel rounds or use similar reloads?

Already twice this year I've withheld shots because a coyote was running to fast and within 75yds because I couldn't focus a scope quick enough .

10-22 9 point. 3.5 yr old

The story really goes back 3 years when I first started hunting this property. I found a saddle going up to a high ridge. About 15 yards east of the saddle was a hemlock tree, perfect for hiding in. With a 20 foot ladder stick the stand was positioned about 5 feet higher the saddle. I placed a trail camera and there was a lot of activity. The weather conditions were near perfect for this morning hunt. Cold calm and 28 degrees. I had sat in the stand 2 times last year and had arrowed a six point and missed an 8. So needless to say I was pretty psyched for this hunt. A large group of does and fawns were working their way through the woods and through the saddle and behind them I could hear a buck grunting and working small saplings as he came along. I got a short look at his face and saw all the white around his eyes you knew he was older. As I thought he was going to enter my shooting lane I begin to draw only to have him hang up and had to let down. He then took that step into the lane and I made my draw only to find a few twigs in the way, in that half second before as he passed through I made the adjustment and let her fly. The buck was quartering away at about 45 degrees and at 17 yds. The arrow passed through both lungs and he crashed and trashed about 40 yards off. Now the crazy part is all the does after scattering returned to the scene of the crime and spent 45 minutes trying to figure out what happened. Finally they moved off after having presenting a couple of tempting shooting opportunities. The reason they left was another buck. This guy came in thrashed and snort wheezed for another half hour. Finally he ambled off and I could get down take a look. I found I had a arrowed a 9 pt, big bodied deer. Taking it to the DNR check station in Traverse City I was told it was a 3.5 year old. Field dressed it weighs 160 pounds. Green score 100. Thanks for all the congratulations and good luck to you guys and be safe. ;)

How long before season do you sight in your guns?

Just curious as to how long before season everyone sights their guns in.

Myself, I try to get as close to the 15th as possible so its "freshly" sighted in. I always wondered why if I am dead on, season is over, gun is cleaned/put in safe and not touched until next season why the sights can move at all. Thats why I get a little leery about going TOO far ahead of time.

10/22 SCR Casting

Got out last night about 8:15 to try and catch a couple wallys. Got there and surprisingly found the water very cloudy, dropped the white twister in and it vanished after about 6 inches . Was figuring it was gonna be a slow night, casted for awhile with nothing at spot #1. Packed up and moved, found the minnows everywhere at spot #2 knew there had to be walleye around, but struck out again. Moved again to my go to spot, 3rd cast a fish smashed the twister 5' from me and came right to the surface. Somehow I grabbed the net with me left hand and slid the fish thrashing about across the surface right into the net in what seemed like 3 or 4 seconds . Was a nice chunky fish approx. 20 inches or so. Seen a couple fish hit the surface in the next 10 minutes and I figured I was gonna get another but 20 minutes later, nothing.

Decided since the fish were hitting the surface I would cast a bomber, since I hear they are the the lure to cast. 30 minutes of the bomber produced nothing so I packed up and made a major move up river hoping for clear water. Was not to be be, casted another 30 minutes there and called it a night at 1:15, was getting dam cold out there.

Still waiting for my 1st multiple fish night . Maybe next time........

Fishing/boating in cold weather/rain gear for windy/cold/wet fall conditions...

Thinking to invest in some better gear without going too nuts, any recommendations for those whom don't have a boat with an enclosed cabin and like to get out fishing in the cold wind (combined with cold water spray?) Going 30mph into a ice cold water spray, and sitting anchored in the wind can make for a long day...

Looking to better equip for conditions to avoid getting wet and to stay warm, after a fishing trip where my crew wussed out :gaga: because they got wet and cold and the cold wind basically turned them into popsicles, it seems the gear can be the difference between cutting a fishing trip short and actually staying out for a few hours and netting some fish. (what a waste... ugg)

There is alot of gear out there, so I appreciate any advice on some good bang for the buck effective stuff for LSC fall/spring conditions, atleast it will help me to narrow my focus.

Usage is basically as long as you can boat on a water cooled outboard. I don't duck hunt so this is primarily for fishing. I could see me trying to get out to use it ice fishing if a buddy invites me out to use their shanty or the occasional trip to an inland lake possibly without a shanty (conditions permitting), but that is a secondary priority.

Thanks for any insight...

Also I'm ok for this year, I'm more thinking ahead for future seasons, so I assume it might be best to wait until late winter or early spring to find sales on the gear? I've really never looked before so thanks for any tips. Also are you guys basically buying waders as part of the package?

I may also try to buy an extra set a bit over-sized for guests whom come in from out of town to go fishing, to try to prevent those shortened trips

Dog Training Books or DVDs

Hello, I am looking for any advice on dog training books or DVDs. I checked the local libraries and there wasn't much so I thought I would ask if anyone has old books or suggestions of good training guides.

I just purchased my first puppy and can't wait to begin training him for birds. He is a 9 week old lab and already has great retrieving skills. I plan to train him for waterfowl and upland bird, possibly pointing.

Any advice is appreciated as I begin this adventure! Thanks!

Been lurking for a while. Time to say hi

Just wanted to take a second to introduce myself to the board. My names Aaron and I've been a member here for what seems like a few years now and must say I really appreciate all the info and tips one can receive from this site.

I was introduced to waterfowl hunting 3 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I reside in Indiana but all of my waterfowl hunting at this point has been in MI (Berrien County) on private land with flooded timber and along the St. Joe river.

My friend who introduced me to waterfowling and began showing me the ropes had to move back to Texas this year so I plan on leaning more on the experts here for more advice along the way!

For me, it's live from the office.:(

It's 2:10am and I am hunting the elusive sticky fingered night stocking crew. Certainly not the kind of hunting I want to be doing this time of year, but my time comes in a little over a week.

I'll be making my annual bow hunting trip to Michigan Oct 31-Nov 9. Heading to the Big woods of the NELP (Glennie area) with high hopes and anticipation.

Until then folks, good luck to those of you getting out today. May your aim be true and your arrows fly straight!

My Thanks!

Tonight my wife shot her first buck, a nice 6 point that we have had on camera several times, and one she had an encounter with on Saturday night.

I would like to thank anyone and everyone who has contributed to this site over the years. Your willingness to share your experiences, both good and bad, has helped me immensely to improve my land. I try to read everything in this forum, and help others when I can.

Special thanks to Stickman1978 (my BIL) for teaching me a lot about habitat work and letting me know about this great site. I would be remiss if I didn't make special mention of Scott Bishop. I toured Scott's place a few years ago, and left his place with my head swimming with ideas for my place. Peck, if you see this thread, please share it with Scott's family. I still think of him often and am still very sorry for your loss.

Here are a few pics of the buck using the plot during day light hours and my wife with her biggest buck...so far!

Thanks again,

Craves

Looking for hunter for 10/22 AM

I am looking to get out to hunt either Fish Point or NQP tomorrow morning. I would like to pair up with someone or add into a group to have a better chance at a good zone! I have enough decoys and mojo- just no dog! I know FP added some zones to be singles-- but I'd still like to pair up! Thanks!!

Pheasant hunting with dog opening day and next day in favorite crp areas near Ohio border. Never been shut out opening day but see VERY FEW birds this year and have been shut out. I'm wondering if last winter killed off a bunch of birds or if its just a fluke. Anybody else care to comment on seeing birds?

Western UP buck

This was my number 1 buck on my cam this year. Have a few others on cam but was glad to see this guy show up after passing him a few times last year. He came in Sunday evening right on schedule after checking my trail cam. Didn't recover him until Monday morning but he dropped 10 yards from logging trail.

Like I said before the herd is down but still plenty of bucks on our cams and nothing like killing a mature big woods buck.

Access questions?

I am beginning to think what is going to be my biggest problem going forward is stand placement and access to them. I hunted Sunday afternoon for the first time using a permanent ladder the last owner must have put up so i hung a stand there just to see because the wind was right. Saw a bunch of deer but i have to walk past the verry edge of what i would say is a core aera at the road side where the gate is and i jumped deer both on the way in and the way out and this has happened many times hunting and even before season i am walking on the mowed drive but i have a trail cam pics of deer bedding 20yds from the edge by the driveway, this aera is about 5 acres and i will hunt down in there later when i find a stand spot, but it is thick and its wet ground at the back of this aera. So when you talk access and you are needing to get into a stand site thats not on the edge of the property what is the best plan? Clear a path and try to be as screened as possible? What to do if this is not really possible, dont bow hunt that stand or only hunt the evenings and if you bump deer out of the other spot on the way out oh well? I can come in from the other side but its 1/4 mile through wet swamp so i wont be sneaking up on anything and last time i walked it i bumped deer out of the other side of the same core aera by the road.

Eating Merganser

Shot my first duck/merg on Sunday. I've always been a "You shoot it, you eat it" kind of person. Read all about eating it, couldn't find any positive posts about it...anywhere. Well I enjoyed eating my merg!

Cut into small pieces (1/2" x 1/2")

Cover bottom of pan with olive oil, heat for awhile. Add merg. Let it cook until sides are getting a little over-done. Add in the General Tsao's Sauce (found in Asian foods, I buy mine at Meijer). Stir all the sauce and duck together, BAM! You got yourself a nice meal. No fishy taste at all.

Mount back today

Last November 14th around 4:00pm, the wife and the dog were out on the front porch and the wife was decorating for Christmas. Our Shih Tzu was running around and I decided I was going inside to make a call, with the dog following.

I no more than got into the house and when I looked out the slider, I seen a coyote in a fast trot coming right towards the front porch. I grabbed the 17HMR and opened the door. By that time the coyote had made it to the edge of the yard it was no further than about 25yds from the front porch and the wife. The 17HMR cracked and that little 20gr bullet took it directly in the chest, knocked it down and it made it 10yds and it was all over. Other than the shot startling the wife, she had no idea that the coyote was there.

Roscommon County Stateland

As many of you were aware, my dad and I, and my buddy and his dad have decided to try and start an annual bow trip.

This year we are starting it out in Roscommon County. Really the biggest determining factor was shear volume of state forests and hunt able areas.

Our plan is to haul my buddy's camper up Wednesday 11-5 morning to try and find a decent campsite to put us in the thick of things. We are studying maps looking for some of the more obvious choices on where we might find a few deer. Funnels, creek bottoms and those sorts of things. Knowing we have our dads with us we are really hoping to find a few places that might not be the longest walk in. I doubt we will run into a crazy amount of people up there being that it will be the middle of the work week. But even if we do, im sure we will have a great time.

If you have um, lets see some pictures of deer taken from this area!

You guys have advice on where to eat and or anything we should try and do while were up there?

Needing some Huron trib suggestions

Hey everybody. I used to be a subscribed member under another name but I don't get out like I used to and don't come here much anymore, but I have a special request so I thought I might ask for some help.

I'm losing my Dad. We've been blessed with a good five extra years more than the docs thought, but it's catching up with him. I've been with him day and night since Friday morning so my mom could get a much needed "real" break. On Tuesday she will return and I will get my need break.

I've been watching the conditions outside the place my dad is at. Looks like some good fishing weather. I've been thinking that fishing would do me a lot of good.

I'm pretty broke, so I was wondering if someone could tell me a river or an approximate area where I could get away and catch some fish within a couple hours of Oakland county. I would like to hook a steelie the most. I really don't know much about this area at all.

I'm rushing around to see if I can make an afternoon trip even work. I didn't access the latest

Forum rules, so if I broke them, I apologize everybody! I was not at all planning on throwing a trip together so I haven't done any research and could use some help.

Thanks

Blue Bird Day....butt he birds were flying

It was a blue bird day, but the birds were flying in my little corner of the world. All is all it was a GREAT day to be on the water. I harvested 2 geese, 2 scaups, and one hen.

The scaups were the highlight of my day. I had two different groups fly though and by fly I mean ROCKET. Those little buggers were using their after burners today. When they cut through the air they would make the most amazing noise. Its like a small jet. Very cool.

Government case implodes as its former lawyers allege fraud against Holder DOJ

As a result of the allegations, a federal district judge has ordered the recusal from the case of every judge in the Eastern District of California. He reasons that the court may have been defrauded by the government, thus requiring the appointment of an outside judge to handle the matter going forward.

-------------------------

Nonetheless, as litigants confronted by the power of the federal government are wont to do, the company settled the case. It agreed to pay $55 million to the United States over a period of five years and to give up 22,500 acres of land.

But now two former DOJ lawyers in the office that prosecuted the action corroborate Sierra Pacific’s claim that the DOJ’s case was based on fraud and deception. Using information provided by these lawyers, Sierra Pacific told the federal court that “the United States presented false evidence to the Defendants and the Court [and] advanced arguments to the Court premised on that false evidence or for which material evidence had been withheld.”

In addition, the United States “prepared key. . .investigators for depositions, and allowed them to repeatedly give false testimony about the most important aspects of their investigation.” The United States also “failed to disclose the facts and circumstances associated with the lead investigator’s direct financial interest in the outcome of the investigation arising from an illegal bank account that has since been exposed and terminated.”

--------------------------------------

In this instance, David Shelledy, who drove the prosecution against Sierra Pacific, reportedly had a history of resisting the disclosure in environmental cases of evidence the DOJ is required to disclose. The Department’s office of professional responsibility is said to have rejected his positions on this issue in previous cases.

But the Holder's DOJ did not rein Shelledy in. And now, it is about to award him for “excellence.”

The birds are coming!!!

Todays sight was a first for me. In the 18 yrs I have been duck hunting I have never seen huge flocks of ducks coming down from the north. I witnessed a giant black mass moving through the skies coming down from Canada. It's hard to estimate approximately how many birds there were. It was enough for me to pull off the road and watch

Hunting the UP (Houghton Cty)

Hello! I'm new to this site, and new to Michigan hunting. My wife and I bought 150ac this summer in the Pelkie area, just off M38. I'm going to hunt it for the first time during the gun season this year. I'm looking for some tips as I've only ever hunted agricultural/block timber areas in Wisconsin. We've got a few fields (10-15ac) with producing apple trees, and I had thought, since I haven't had much time to do scouting, I'd get in a stand where I could watch these fields to see as much ground as possible. We have some relatively steep ravines that I'm certain the deer are moving through, and a few lower areas. The land, according to the former owner, hasn't been hunted by more than one guy for the last 20 years. Does anyone hunt the area, and if so, what techniques do you recommend?

10/17 SCR casting

Got out at 8PM last night and fished through the wind and some rain. Took over 2 hours to get a strike on a chrome/chart rattletrap and it popped off right after the hook set. Was then determined to not leave till I got another to go with Wednesday's fish so I could make a nice fish dinner. Kept at it and over 2 hours later finally felt that hit. Quickly netted the fish and when I turned my light on was happy to see a nice 18" walleye. Tried for another 30 minutes or so after that with nothing. Then the sprinkle turned to rain and I reluctantly packed it up about 1 AM.

The fish on the bottom is the one from last night the other is a 20 incher from Wednesday nights outing. Think the water temp has to drop some more to get these fish going along the shore. There are definitely no shortage of minnows around the shoreline for them to snack on that's for sure.

Black river hunting

I'm thinking about hitting the black river, and shooting some ducks tonight or tomorrow night. Scouted the area a week before the opener we launched from dunton and went all the way back past th train tracks. Has anybody hunted on the river lately? Was wondering if it has got so shot up that the birds are pretty educated now. I was also wondering where exactly you can and can't hunt. My dad was alway saying back in the day when he hunted there you had to go past the train tracks to be able to shoot. Does this rule still apply? Thanks for any info!

Meet the Specialists (PBS)

Good show last night, I thought. Anything from wolves to cougars to lack of salmon runs. Russ Mason (I think that was his name) seems to think coyotes are the #1 problem in the UP. More so than wolves. Also a caller from Muskegon called in said they've seen cougar tracks in that area. Mason said to send him pictures and they will investigate if they have any chance of being real. He basically challenged a few other beliefs on cougars. Breeding population in UP etc.

Debating about an upgrade

Started years ago with my darton mx40. Shot that bow for over a decade. Was very accurate and nice draw but heavy. Finally the strings and cables stretched out so I turned to CL for something newer.

Ended up buying an 04 martin saber. I've since added a zebra string qad drop away, HHA single pin slider, a string stop and stabilizer. Now I got it tuned in and shooting pretty decent. 3/4 in the zone at 60 yrds.

Anyway. I did have issues getting there. I was taught to shoot the darton with a relaxed open hand. With the martin the bow would always torque to the side on the shot.. so now I shoot with a firm closed grip and its much better.

One of the guys from work came by and shot his bear legion and I was shocked at how quiet it was. Light and fast too.

So I would love to get something more quiet and consisent.

Midway has the bear anarchy for $450 shipped. And its tempted to break out the plastic but really I can kill deer with mine just fine.

Whats your pics for draw cycle and how quiet?
