Here's a stistic that flies under many people's radar surrounding high school football in the state of Michigan.....
In 1999, the MHSAA created the 8 division system for its football playoffs. That was 16 years ago. EVERY year since the 8 division platform has been in place, at least one team from the Catholic High School League-Central Division has played in a state-championship game in either Division 1, 2 or 3.
Whats even more impressive is there are only 5 teams in the entire division. And, in some years, like this year, more than one team will play for the state title in a different division, specifically: Warren DeLaSalle in #2 and Orchard Lake St. Mary's in divison #3.
While not victorious in every game, it is a stat that no other divison in the state can measure up to. Again, 5 schools with enrollment going from 550 (OLSM) to 1,300 (DCC).
Here are the numbers: (win-loss does not include 2014)
Detroit/Novi Catholic Central: 7 (4-3)
Birmingham Brother Rice: 8 (5-3)
Orchard Lake St. Mary's: 9 (3-5)
Warren De Lasalle: 3 (0-2)
