Some of the local hunters are getting pretty good about not shooting 1 and 2 year old bucks, but many of the three year olds that we're seeing have no brow tines. A few years ago, we would have laughed at the idea of 'management bucks', but we're starting to wonder whether taking out 2 year olds that don't have brow tines might tilt the balance toward seeing more bucks older than 3.5 with brow tines , the thought being the 3.5 year olds with no brow tines are likely to die anyway, so why not take them out at 2.5 and use one of the combo tags on them. I know that some high fence places do this. Is anybody else doing this?
Managing for brow tines.
