Went up north for work detail and we were able to squeeze in some hunting in the mornings and night. Grandpas sits on 40 acres and is surounded by state land in the northern lower east central kinda. Saturday morning we went out and hunted a area that had been clear probally between 5-7 years ago Lots of young aspen. There were three of us hunting and no dog we flushed three birds Didnt even get a shot off. Two of them we could only hear taking off out of view and the other one we were taking a break in a circle and it flew up in the middle of us ( that was a hoot). the other flushed we had was when the three of us went to check out our hunting spots way off of the main roads. Only took our shot guns in case we found some squirrel the area had been clear cut a while ago but was preatty swampy and as soon as we got out of the truck they took off and took us by surprise. So we shot no grouse but seen some, which was cool. Makes me want to save up for a dog. As a side note grandpa and dad has always called them Partridge or Pats. Anybody else ever called them that
