Opening day was a bit hectic but it's been my most memorable bow opener to date.
The morning started off with a doe and twins coming in at 20 yards within 30 minutes of getting situated in my climber. As I was texting my uncle to tell him I saw three already he texted me saying buck down already. He shot a 5 point that should have been a 7 but was missing brow tines, a common trait for bucks around our spot. He ended up seeing another similar size buck and 8 does.
During the evening hunt while I was trying to post an update in the LFTS
thread around 5:15, I look up and see a small 8 point heading right towards me. Get the bow and wait forever to get a clear shot at 22 yards. I was a little worried about the shot because it looked high and I could see the fetching sticking out of him, but was pretty sure I heard him crash not far off. I waited over a hour and followed a great blood trail less than 40 yards to claim my first buck with a bow! He managed to fall in some of the thickest brush you can find in the state so I tagged him and dragged him by my tree. 30 minutes after climbing back into the stand I spot another back coming right at me, I thought this one was a real nice buck but as I got a good view it turned out he was just a massive 4 point, really tall and wide. That one got a pass for now.
So a great opener for us, 4 bucks spotted, 2 shot, 11 other deer sightings. This is private land in Livingston county.
Thanks for reading and happy hunting!
