I have a 12x32 cabin on my property in the NELP. Last year we ran underground cable 900' for electric and wired the whole cabin. This years project was a well, WELL (you see what I did there;)) the price was about $4500. My wife and i are both teachers, so that wasn't possible so i looked to a sand point. I bought everything needed and got the pipe from Alpena supply, totally expecting it not to work out for me.
After about an hour and a half of pounding the sand point and one and a half sections of pipe the sound changed. I took my jug of water and filled the pipe and it absorbed into the sand immediately- i was in the aquifer.
Now my main question is.
How do i flush the well to get rid of the sand? It's been up there for about a month now and we've been up there three times and spent much time hand pumping it. The well is becoming much clearer, but has a lot of very fine sand left. Is that to be expected? Should i expect to just fill a 3-5 gallon bucket and let it settle?
I will be getting the water tested in the spring as for now i plan to only wash the "bits" necessary after a week at camp and use it to rinse dishes after warming on the wood burner.
first few pumps- mmmm chocolate milk like
me feeling great after it actually working and not hitting a rock 8' down!
my son and father during the EAS, much clearer water.
