Windy buck

I finally made it out yesterday in midland county. I hadn't been out yet this year but with this cold front and a good forecast from Jeff Sturgis I figured I'd give it a go. I claimed in m stand at 3:45 and settled in for a sit. -

This old stand sits over looking a pond with open hardwoods behind it and thick cover off to my right. I was just thing to myself that this stand was getting a little long in the tooth and how I hadn't had luck here in a while when a five point steps out. He was a nice little 1.5 yr old and I knew he'd get a pass. He stopped to make a scrape at the edge of the pond. Then this guy steps out. I noticed he was much bigger in body size. I'm guessing now he still a 2.5 yr old. He was followed by another 6 and a basket rack 8. The shot across the pond is 30 yrds I drew and he was quartering away pretty hard. I aimed for the exit to be right at the heart I had to shoot through the crotch of a tree branch but I heard the arrow connect. He took off. I watched him run 70 yrds and it looked like he ran in to the thick stuff. I got down and checked my arrow lots of bright blood with bubbles and gut. I was bummed. I found good blood but backed out for and hour. I tracked him to about where I last lost sight of him. The muzzys did the job (after recommendations from others on here as I was not happy with rage) He's not huge but I'm happy with him. - -
