Courser Resigns, Gamrat Expelled
10 months ago these 2 were the pride of the Tea Party.
Agree with those who believe that this investigation was handled very poorly. Josh Cline, and the other aide whose name I can't recall, should have been given the chance to testify under oath. Sure leaves the smell of a cover-up behind.

Poison ivy?
Just moved and unfortunately at my new place I am loaded up with it. Also tons of Virginia creeper and brambles so it's all challenging my identification with every step. Young creeper looks very similar it seems.
I had never had a reaction in 36 years of lots of exposure. Got it decent last summer and now on high alert. Loaded the bath with technu and jewel weed salve just in case me or one of my kids gets it.

15 Down Wins the Crown!! Team #15 Official Thread
Little background on myself, I hunt Bay County private land 99% of the time and an occasional trip to public land the othr 1%. Since the land I hunt is right out my back door I get in quite a few hunts throughout the season with fairly good results most years depending on what crops are still in the surrounding fields. This year is mostly beans so things are looking good for the deer staying in the woods more often!
Glad to be team Captain and can't...

Property line
I just purchased 80 acres. It's 1/4 mile by 1/2 mile. About 1/2 of the back line is already wired off on the property line. I would like to cut a trail down the rest of the back line however it's extremely thick . I definitely don't want to wind up on the neighbors property. I can mark the corner and the other part that's wired however I'm trying to use a handheld gps and it's going poorly. Loosing signal and it just doesn't seem to be reliable. Any tricks for finding the rest of the line. I thought I would just be able to cut the already marked part and just sight a line down it however that's easier said than done. Just going around a couple bigger trees pretty much ended that. Yes I know I could just pay a guy however I just purchased 80 acres lol

Leelanau Penninsula
I will be vacationing with the family in a couple of weeks on the LP and was hoping to chase a few trout. I have tried a bit in past trips, but haven't had much luck other than chubs and bluegill. If I were by myself, I'd have no problem exploring some of the small creeks, but I will likely only manage 2-3 hours once or twice during the trip and would be grateful to at least have a shot at a trout or two.
Not looking for sweet spots, but if anyone has some pointers or places to start, a PM would be appreciated. Tried the Platte once, but far too many tubes/canoes and it's a bit further south than I'd like.
Thank you!

6/28/15, Saginaw Bay, Au Gres, Fishing Report
My clients had their trip cancelled due to bad weather back during the spring, but they rescheduled for today. With winds at 25 knots out of the northeast yesterday, we had to cancel that charter. Those big winds continued through last night and into the early morning hours. A couple hours before the start of today's charter, the wind switched to the northwest, so we had wind and big rollers from two different directions. We stayed close to shore for protection from the waves and found a small school of fish in 23 to 28 feet of water. We caught a fair number of walleyes, but when the wind shifted to the northeast the bite slowed up to a crawl. After a while though, they started biting again, but when the wind shifted once again, but to the east, the walleye bite died, but by then my clients had caught their limits of nice walleyes. I decided to scout out a different area on my limit for tomorrow's charter and set up for a reconnaissance trolling pass in 42 feet of water just west of the weather buoy. The bite was slow there too, but we did manage some more walleyes and two of them were pretty big ones. We only caught a couple walleyes today that were under 18" with our biggest being a 26 incher. We also lost several 25 inch-ish walleyes too, so there were some nice sized fish in the area. The bite though was painfully tough despite the fact that I was marking fish where ever we went. The light bite resulted in us loosing more fish than we caught. All but one of our walleyes came right off the bottom on spinner/crawler/bottom bouncer rigs. We had to keep the speeds slow at 1.3-1.4 mph to get them to bite. Color did not seem to mater as they hit everything about equally. The weather this June has been very unstable, but we do have a good forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully July will bring more stable weather. If so, the fishing here will explode.

Great Win Today
Great to see this team come to life in the late innings. And who was the catalyst? Victor. That guy is money and the main reason I hold out hope they can get hot and get back in the race. What the heck was miggy doing swinging at that bill of the cap cheese in the eighth. He didn't expect that? The catcher was standing up. He looked pretty silly which doesn't happen often.

Couple no till plots
Just figured I would show a couple no till plots I did this year. The First was a rye and cover plot that I rolled and planted last fall. the clover did not come in hardly at all probably due to the fact that I used very old seed we had laying around. Two weeks before memorial day I sprayed the rye with gly and broadcasted a mix of clover and chickory, cultipacked and then just mowed it this weekend and was very impressed with the plot. The second plot was one I had corn and some brasticas last year and I didn't get to spraying early enough this year so the weeds got a little tall. Instead of going through all the steps because of not having a lot of time, I sprayed it on the 13th of June and then on the 17th. I broadcasted rr beans and a little bit of rr corn into the standing weeds and last year's corn stalks. after I was done I mowed it and packed it and theses are some pics of both. The beans probably had 50% germ on the 24th .

New line of decoys
Maybe some here haven't heard yet. We are bringing a new line of decoys to market. Mass production EPS foam decoys with a molded in weighted keel. The body molds are due to hit our manufacturer late this coming week then once production is scheduled we will be moving. The first is a diver body. Measures 14" long 8" wide and 5.5" tall. The decoys density will be 2.5lbs the same density Herters made there decoy bodies. The body is based off a body we had carved by Frank Peeters many yeas ago. We added a very special designed weighted keel to it. Here our the 3d cad drawing of the bottom of the decoy and of the heads we hope to have molded by hunting season. The bodies will work great for those who make there own heads or you can use herters 72 heads or we recommend Autumn Wings wood heads. With those your decoys should last a lifetime.

Thanks Dave

The wife and I took our 9 year old grand daughter to see "Max" last night.
I was surprised by a review I read this morning that reviewer didn't rate it very high. We all thought it was great, some moments we were moved to tears. Some times we chuckled, and thought it had a great story line that you thought near the end wasn't going to have a happy ending but it did.

Lowrance or Garmin Sidewinder Sonar?
Interested in a new chart plotter sonar unit this year and have been comparing 7" Gen 3 HDS from Lowrance to Garmin"s similar model. Really wondered if any of you has used the sidefinder feature of either of these to look for shallow fish in the spring or summer steelies...and can provide some feedback on whether it works.

Randall Lake
Since I had a hard time finding much info on this chain of lakes I wanted to post a report.
Just returned from a week long family vacation on Randall lake chain in Branch county. The water level on the lake was up but the water clarity seemed good.
Bass were few and small. Pike were very few and far between. We caught plenty of bluegill of decent size and some perch. We had to sort through to find keeper perch. In the end we scrounged enough pan fish for a fish fry, but barely.
My assessment is pan fishing on this chain is decent. If you are looking for anything else.... Keep looking. It may have just been a tough week, but it was really tough.

Au Sable gold, 6-27-15
Hit the Big A again for walleyes, and did well. Flows were down from a week ago, but temp has stayed a cool 70* with the consistent weather we've had. Nowhere near as many smallies this trip, and zero cats. I hooked 10 walleye: landed 8. My limit consisted of 18-24" fish.
It was a tougher bite to start, but I picked away and had little flurries of action. Good, aggressive bites again and some fought quite scrappy. I did lose one that felt really nice.
Last week's angry NE blow sure did a number on the barrier/boards to the north wall. Flipped 2 of them over the top, and drove the third into the steel barrier, separating and curling it! I didn't take a pic last week, but did this weekend. The mouth was slow fishing.

6/26/15, Saginaw Bay, Au Gres, Fishing Report
After a few days off the water, my clients from various parts of southeast Michigan and I hit the water with tough conditions indeed. We had a fairly stiff, northeast wind all day with waves in the three to four foot being pushed down from Lake Huron proper. With conditions like that, we had only one logical choice of a fishing area: Right out front of Au Gres and in close enough for protection from the winds that Gravely Shoal provided. We set up for our first trolling pass in 28 feet of water near the Gravely Shoal and trolled with the wind southwest. I started out with six spinner/crawler rigs set right on the bottom, but kept two more up about 20' down from the turbulent surface with a 35' setback. Those high lines took our first three bigger fish, so I naturally switched over to more of those rigs, but when the clouds rolled in about 45 minutes into the troll , that "high bite" died and we never took another hit up off bottom for the rest of the day. We picked up nine keeper walleyes on our first pass from point to point, but when I set up for our second pass, I put all the lures right on bottom and our hit rate went way up. We made it about half way through that second pass and had put our legal limit of 20 walleyes in the box. Spinner color did not mater as long as it was trolled on the bottom at slow speeds of 1.3 to 1.4 mph. I had to put one 26" drift sock into the water to attain that trolling speed. We marked a lot of fish in that area, but not all of them were walleyes. We also caught two white suckers: the first ones of the year. We also caught a sheephead that was so big that it ranked as probably one of the biggest one I've ever seen before. Most of our walleyes caught were 18-20 inchers, but we did catch some that were undersized and had to throw them back with several being 14-3/4 inchers. Some were also bigger, chunkers too that were well over 20 inches. All in all, despite the tough conditions, it was a very fun day on the water and everyone on my boat had a lot of fun in the process.

Video from April trip
I finally got around to putting together the footage I took on the river this spring. Learned that I need to double check the angle and perspective on my GoPro before just running it all week. I should have had it at a wider angle and aiming down at the water more. Live and learn!

steering cable bracket
OK guys, I need some help here. I just about have everything back together on my boat project. Im scratching my head a bit now trying to come up with something to keep the steering cable in place and not scraping against the hole through my splashwell. I put it through a rubber cable boot but that isn't doing anything to keep it in place.
I remember during the demo portion of the project that there was some sort of mount attached to the splashwell that the steering cable ran through which kept it in place but the bolts were rusted and it had to be cut off with a grinder. Now I don't know what to use to keep the cable from moving.

Augres 6-26-15 NE Winds
I went back to bed this morning after waking up at 5am and checking all weather sites. Most were inconsistent as usual but the GLERL Weather Station Buoys had winds of 16MPH with gusts to 21MPH at 3 separate locations on the Bay. This is the site I have the most confidence in. Did I make the right choice? I only ask because it is really calm here in East Tawas and I have this sinking feeling in my gut that I could have gone out and fished. Those winds will usually produce 4+ foot rollers and the wife and kids are not having any of that.

deer scents
Just wondering. How many hunters use and believe in all these different doe in heat scents. I personal do not believe they are real.I think Fred Trost was right when he got in trouble on his tv show for saying it.If it is real how do they get all the urine. They sell millions of bottles all over the country. You realize how many deer s they would need penned up to get t that much urine it would be a unbelievable amount of deer. And how about the doe in estrus scent when there only in heat for a short amount of time.I believe sure deer will come to it some time just like they will smell a lot of different scents that do not cost ten copiers a little bottle.I personaly use my own urine. When ever I hunt I urinate in the same spot about 25 yards from me.I've shot 37 bucks and at least one third of them were sniffing my urine including my biggest one that scored 158.

Hey guys.. I'm going to be planting a 1/2 acre food plot and need to know what to plant and when to plant it. I have heard oats are a great fall food plot but wanted to get some opinions. I want something that deer will eat after the first frost. Also, when should I plant it? Any help would be appreciated!

Holland 6/25 PM
Headed out of Holland Thursday night around 6pm. Set up in 90 FOW and started setting lines while heading West. Just strung back the 300' copper with a Moonshine Flounder Pounder, set the rod on the engine compartment, turned around to grab the planer, and turned back JUST in time to see the rod heading for the lake. Grabbed it and fought a King to the back of the boat. Not big, 8-10lbs, it went crazy as it entered the two downriggers down on that side, and managed to play cats in the cradle with both cables...SNAP! Worked the 120-140. Marked some fish, not much bait. Caught one small Laker on a wire dipsy back 69 with a funky fish catcher/fly combo we just broke out of the package. It was white with golden tape and the fly was a golden tinsel fly. Just at sunset the rigger down 69 with a mountain dew spin doctor/fly popped. 8.8lb Laker. Kept the two Lakers for the smoker. Those were the only three fish we had on. Didn't even hit the 9:30 flurry! Hope things come back around in the next week or so. Good luck!

My New Partner
I thought I would share the latest addition to my family and my new hunting partner. His name is Geddy and he's an American Water Spaniel. I did a lot of research on which dog would best fit my hunting style as well as being a good family dog. I bought him from Little Brownies Kennels out of Howell, MI. They have a passion of keeping the American Water Spaniel breed from disappearing. Their history date's back to the market hunting days and the breed was developed out of Wisconsin in the Fox River area. They needed a dog that would fit into a small boat that wouldn't take up too much space to navigate the backwaters of the Fox River . We've had him less than a week and all I can say is he's a remarkably smart and easy going puppy. I've never trained a dog for hunting so I intend to train him with the help of the breeder he holds monthly classes during the non-hunting months. Looking forward to many years of developing some good hunting memories with him. Oh yeah...............he is 9 weeks old.

Silvers from shore
I know its kind of taboo to be talking about the silvers when everyone is after the 'eyes, but I'm looking to take the kids out casting during the day and was wondering if anyone knew of an area where the silvers are in. I was thinking about taking them to the boardwalk in Algonac. I figured they would be good entertainment for a 6 and 8 year old. Thanks

Fished early this morning on the Lund with crawlers. Fished the fingers area west of the 1 and 2. Caught our 10 fish in less than an hour.
1.5 mph
25 to 60 back on 2 oz weights
No color better than others on the spinners.
Went out after lunch with 6 guy's to be shocked by 3 to 4 ftrs. Crawled to the same place and by the time we got there it was 5 to 7 ftrs. Tried to fish but surging was horrible and we came in with 3 fish. Will reschedule the guy's trip later in the season.

Pre-tyed tippet to fly section
Hey guys. Not being a very good knot-tyer, when I heard of people pre-tying a section of tippet to their flies & tying a loop to the other end of the tippet section, it intrigued me. Using this method, you would also tie a loop at the "tippet end" of your leader. When changing flies, you simply have a loop to loop connection to do, as opposed tying tying any knots. Any thoughts? Also, how would one manage to keep a dozen of these pre-tied flies in your vest, in an organized fashion? (Seems that a leader wallet would crush\disfigure the flies). Thanks. Tight lines.

The skills gap in the US killing millions of jobs
http://ift.tt/1GrkRit
More than 9 million Americans are unemployed, according to the Labor Department, and many more are underemployed. Yet in a recent study by CareerBuilder, more than half of the employers surveyed said they had open positions for which they could not find a qualified applicant. It's not that those workers don't exist somewhere, the experts say. It's just that they're not necessarily located near the employers who want to hire them.
Experts have a term for this mismatch between jobs and the people to fill them: the skills gap. And it's a big reason that the new prime battleground among America's Top States for Businessand every other state for that matteris which state offers the best workforce.
But what makes a good workforce? Having plenty of available people is a start, but only a start.
"Beyond measuring labor supply and demand indicators, assessing a region's degree of skill-set specialization is critical in order to effectively scale operations to the desired headcount," wrote site-selection consultant Keith Gendreau of Cushman & Wakefield in the trade publication "Area Development" this year.
It's a long and fancy way of saying that you can't close the skills gap without ... well, skills.
Because of that, businesses are increasingly considering the education level of a state's workforce when deciding where to locate. But even that has become more complicated these days, according to Daniel Marschall, a policy specialist with the AFL-CIO who has been studying workforce development for more than 30 years.
"There's been an expansion of interest in this area that I've never seen in my professional life," he said.
He says business leaders and policymakers are finding it is no longer enough to consider how far a region's workforce went in college. He said a focus on "four-year college for all" that began in the 1970s "is not serving the needs of our economy anymore." The result, he said, has been a generation of well-educated baby boomers who are now retiring "and taking their skills and knowledge with them."
So employers are increasingly looking at the availability of state-sponsored training programs and apprenticeships to develop the local workforce, better aligning the workers' skills with their needs. A new federal law is aimed at streamlining the process.
Last year, in a rare display of bipartisanship, Congress overwhelmingly approved the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the first update of federal workforce policy since 1998. The law includes some $3 billion in funding for worker training and seeks to give new autonomy to the states in creating "job-based" programs. But the law also includes new accountability and reporting requirements that will make it easier for businesses to evaluate the workforces in states they are considering.
Unions see an opening in the new push toward targeted training, becoming clearinghouses for companies seeking qualified workers, and even helping to fund specialized training programs as part of collective bargaining agreements.
They point to successful partnerships, like an 18-month industrial manufacturing technician apprenticeship program in Wisconsin. Employersincluding Harley-Davidson (HOG), GE (GE) Medical Systems and Ocean Spray (OCESO)craft the curriculum, the workers are guaranteed jobs, and the unions get a steady flow of members.
"Unions and labor-management coalitions can be important workforce intermediaries," Marschall said.
But for the most part, businesses are still steering clear of unions as they evaluate state workforces.
In its most recent survey of corporate decision-makers, "Area Development" found that low-wage costs and so-called right-to-work legislation barring mandatory union dues remain among the top overall factors in site selection, ranking sixth and seventh, respectively.
In addition, more than 70 percent of respondents listed "low union profile" as an important or very important factor, though that number is down from a year ago.

Lake Charlevoix
Any new recent reports on charlevoix? I would like to keep this an informational active thread, after all it is a huge body of water and a tremendous fishery. Haven't been out in last 2 weeks but have been staying consistent prior. What's the current water temp up to? As for me it's been an all stickbait night so far and well after dark for the bigger fish.

I have a ton of these in Montcalm county, both in upland and lowland areas. They appear to grow in clumps of 6-10 canes, which may have branches. The clumps are typically about 3 feet in diameter and 2-3 feet high. I haven't seen any flowers or berries. What is it?

Saginaw Bay Walleye limits may change
Heard over the weekend and read in Michigan Sportsman that the limits for walleys in Saginaw Bay may change for next year. They are talking about lowering the size limit to 13" and raising the daily catch limit to 10. Has any one ever tried to filet a 13" walleye? On my boat we adopted a rule of minimum size to be 17". In my mind 15" is to small to filet.

Polaris Sportsman Backfiring???
I was wondering if anyone could be of some help- My 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 is backfiring on deceleration. It doesn't seem to do it until the engine has warmed up to running temp. It does feel hot on my leg when wearing shorts while riding but the high temp light never comes on. Does anyone have any idea on why it may be backfiring? I have tried adjusting the throttle cable ETS or EMS or whatever the thing is called, and I have also replaced the spark plugs. Just not sure where to start from there.

Drove to Ohio and ran the boat to Canada and fished the Peele Island area.
We fished crawlers with 1 and 2 oz inline weight and 1, 3 oz bottom bouncer off the corner. Our 1 oz's were 30 and 35 back, 2 oz was 40 and 50 back, bottom bouncer, on the bottom.
# passes put 18 keeper wall eye in the boat with 1 throw back.
Waves 5 to 7 ft.

Coast Guard APP
A friend I work with his son is in the CG and he told me abut a APP you can install on your phone, I have a Iphone 5 and just went to the app store and typed in Coast guard and found it. Looks pretty nice has a features for State Boater information, You can request a safety check, Review safety equipment, File a float plan , Rules of the road, NOAA buoys, report a hazard, Report pollution, Report Suspicious activity. The best feature that I think will be great for ice fishing is Emergency assistance it gives you the option to call 911 or the CG and sends your GPS co-ordinates directly to them. Don't know if everyones knows about this but thought I would share.

Need Some Help
As I've shared here several times over the years, I work for an outdoors education center in Lansing. Basically, it's my job to get kids outdoors, teach them about plants and animals, take them fishing, go canoeing, do some archery... it's a tough existence, but someone's got to do it, right? :)
Ok, so it's a little more complicated than that... We do school field trips and operate as a public park. And we do all of the above as a private non-profit, meaning we don't rely on tax payers, or a big parent organization. We survive by charging some modest fees, soliciting a lot of help and donations, and writing some grants here and there.
SO HERE'S THE POINT (and no, I'm not asking you for money!)
A visitor recently nominated us for a $5000 grant to address some much needed repairs. The grant will be awarded to the organization that gets the most votes on the Lansing State Journal's website.
If you all could take two seconds to visit the site, and vote for the barn project at Woldumar Nature Center, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

If you have any questions about the organization or the project, please fire away!

Tried to delete a photo from my gallery. Clicked on photo options as usual. The choice for deleting the photo wasn't there.
Then tried to add a picture to my gallery and got the message that I don't have permission.
I'm not computer savvy, so my hope was that shutting my computer down and rebooting would somehow help. Well, it didn't.
Any suggestions ?

First off Detroitdemon is my brother and this is my last post I will use with his account.........so don't ban him.
I just want to clear some things up as my little comment on another thread was taken way out of proportion.
I never had any intent to harm anyone or their family. I understand that my post might of seemed that way being as most people here don't really know me and it is hard to understand emotion with the written word.
With those of you who have been calling a certain person with either concern or with belligerent comments to that person placing blame on him.....
One just stop he had nothing to do with it and two you have nothing to worry about. You never did.
This though does leave something to think about and was the entire premise of my post.
Seems two of you are pretty worried or were any how.
Well you should be thankful it was me and not some lunatic. My bark is worse than my bite but that may not be the case with someone else.
Those few of you who are on this site with multiple accounts, who intentionally stir the pot should take the entire situation that unfolded as a lesson. Especially with the reactions some had with the phone calls.
That was my point.............I knew who you were or at least thought I did and still think I was right. One of three of you were involved.
If you want to start trouble by insulting people on this site intentionally as you did and have in the past.............you never know who knows what about you and what they are capable of.
So I say to you...........Maybe its time to stop playing those games.
Now on my own behavior the past year or so I have thought about it too.
I have been less than perfect around here. I probably have deserved a time out or two more than once. The last one I got was a result of my language I used because of the division of hunters on this site remains even with the news of CWD. That just plain pissed me off. That is an important issue and the you vs us crap needs to be put aside on issues such as CWD.
My post that has given me a permanent ban was my own fault. I can't place blame on anyone. A troll sucked me into his game and just like in hockey the ref never catches the instigating penalty just the retaliation.
I had complete control over the submit button. Though in my mind I did not see what I was typing as a threat due to I knew I wasn't even thinking of doing something to harm someone, it definitely could be argued as a threat.
I am a pretty open and honest person about who I am on this site. I don't hide my personality. Ask anyone who has met me, my online character is pretty on par with my real character. I am who I am.
I like to talk smack, I can take it and I can give it. (though hard to do when I can't drop a few f bombs)
But at the end of the day I am pretty harmless.
I feel the past year the arguing and insulting I have participated in is mainly due to the lack of learning threads on this site. Even when a good one pops up, the division aspect shows shortly afterwards.
Without educational things for me to focus on like I did the first 4 or 5 years I was on this site I have gotten sucked into the garbage that seems to be overtaking this site.
I think what needs to be remembered is at one time all of us were full of questions and no answers. We need to direct those hunters in the right direction. Even if it is just a link to a thread.
We are all to blame at some point. Even the mods who voice their opinions, say things that they know will only fuel the fire. Sure civil debate is great but lets look at the reality. Rarely is there a debate on this site that remains civil.
Its a shame too. MSF has had many positive things said about it back in the day. I believe we were the goto place for food plot info at one time for the Midwest. John Eberhart, ED spin, Ridgerunner7, Thunderhead, etc used to post here. All great knowledgeable hunters who quit coming here because of the actions of people.........Including myself.
To be frank about it I am embarrassed for how I have acted at times.
Now I made my bed and I have to sleep in it.
So.................
Steve and the rest of the moderators I apologize for my behavior.
To everyone who has took me under their wing to teach me how to be a better hunter and deer manager. I thankyou all. You all have in someway helped me to become a much better hunter than I ever thought I could be.
To those of you I didn't always get along with I always took something positive away from all of you too.
Muster probably made me see things in a different view more than anyone and I learned a ton about herd dynamics from him.
To those of you who I have gone rounds with I apologize for any insulting comments I have made. Most of the time it was nothing but taking a jab and I didn't really mean it.
Good luck to you all.

First Time in the Bay
I will be fishing the bay, out of Au Gres, for the first time this coming weekend. We have a group of 4 guys (two boats) and are inexperienced at trolling for walleye (typically do most of our fishing on inland lakes using slip bobbers).
I am planning on picking up a couple in line planer boards (not sure which model). I have a couple poles with Fireline that I plan on using with them. Plan on using crawler harnesses primarily, any recommendations on rigging those?
Any tips would be appreciated. I don't need the top of the line, ultimate set-up. Just something so we can enjoy the weekend and hopefully land a few walleyes. Looking forward to the trip. Thanks guys.

Leasing question
For anybody out there that leases land, does your property owner require you to carry liability insurance? I'm in the process of leasing some property and they want me to carry a liability insurance plan while it's being leased.

Sand Point Shore Fishing
Hi all,
I will be headed up to sand point (north side which is opposite from wild fowl bay) in Caseville soon and was curious if I had any chance of catching anything if I walked out from shore to about six feet of water?
I am nothing more than an inland lake bass fisherman so any help on this would be appreciated. What could I fish for? What type of lure? Would I be wasting my time?
Thanks

30 day notice
I know this isn't a legal forum, but I need a bit of lease ending info:
My son has been renting a house for 2 years. Last year his original landlord sold the property and a new landlord took over. They signed a year lease from July 1, 2014 to July 1, 2015. The lease was signed on June 20, 2014. He heard nothing from this guy as the expiration date of the lease got closer, so on June 20th, he left a voice message (he has already signed a lease elsewhere and doesn't want to resign). The landlord called back today and said that he will lose his Security deposit for not giving 30 days.
I know that on a month to month lease they are required give 30 days, but this is what the statute states on a yearly lease:
"A tenancy from year to year may be terminated by either party by a notice to quit, given at any time to the other party."
Is he going to lose his security deposit?

Flies only water....are bead head flies allowed? Like lets say a egg sucking leach that uses a bead for the "egg".

Lake Michigan Gobies
I do quite a bit of perch fishing out of grand Haven, often @60 ft, in front of Bill Mar. There have been many times that I have done well but the last few years catching perch has been a challenge thanks to the gobies. Many days I can catch them as fast as I can wind up and let back down. So many even the seagulls say uncle.
Does anyone have a secret to identifying the schools of perch vs. Schools of gobies? Does anyone have a secret to catch the perch and not the gobies? The gobies seem to be more aggressive and are probably just picking up the bait before the perch.
Any suggestions? This weekend I caught 100 gobies and 1,13 inch yellow belly. Fun but not enough for a meal

New Boat
Okay, so I've leaped into the world of boat ownership for the first time. It's only a 14' aluminum, but it's a first for mr so I want to make sure I do this completely right and legal. So I've reviewed the handbook of Michigan Boater Laws and Responsibilities and have a few clarifying questions and a couple of things I need some input with:
1. Since my boat is 14' (6 hp outboard) and has no compartments and/or permanent fuel tank, what safety items am I required, if any, to keep on my boat? (flares, whistle, etc...) my night fishing would be in places like Traverse Bay & Betsie Lake.
2. I would like to do some night fishing, so I need to set up some sort of light system. It currently has nothing. What is the best way to do this? There is currently an anchor pulley set up at the tip of the bow. How/where should I place the sidelights? How about the white anchor light? What should I use for the power source and where to store (and also recharge) it? The seats are riveted to the boat, so there is no storage space at all. It's a basic 14' aluminum v-hull rowboat style.
Any help here for this newbie?

detroit zoo
Just wanted to share something I caught on the news yesterday that kinda irked me...I don't hunt wolves, I hunt waterfowl and the occasional rabbit...but, it really bugs me when the legal hunting of any game is portrayed as a negative thing. When the gentleman from the zoo, while speaking on the hunting of wolves in michigan says, "WE think that's an awful idea", it leads me to believe that this is not only his opinion, but the opinion of the detroit zoo. i've enjoyed visits to the zoo in the past, as i'm sure many have. And it's their prerogative if they want to be anti-hunting- that's their right...but it's my right to decide where I spend my money, and no more will be spent on visits to the zoo.

You are only as free as you imagine yourself to be.
There is nothing "out there" that's holding you down, you are limiting yourself only with your own imagination. And your greatest limits are not even the "cannot" and the "should not", but the places where your imagination hasn't yet gone. There has never been a better time for you to open your eyes, let the imagination soar and see what more is possible.

Casting for pike...stuben area?
Thinking about heading up for 5 days over the 4th with my daughter. Shes never done this before and its somethink i think its something she would enjoy.
We used to fish around there 25 years ago and had a good time... But like I said, that was 25 years ago! Dont remember the name of the lake... But do know they put a campground on it and the fishing went downhill after that.
Be fishing out of a canoe with a 55# tolling motor... Most likely casting spinnerbaits and dragging a bobber/chub around.
Shoot me a PM if you dont want to post on the forum.
Thanks!

Stillwater trout fishing
Hey guys, I'm typically in the southwest forums because I'm from central michigan area, but I'm making my way north a little bit to try my luck in some lakes known to hold trout. Can anyone give me some pointers on techniques for fishing trout in lakes? The places I'm going are artificial lures only so this limits my options. I'm proficient with spinners so I figured I would try that but I would like to have some backup options if I can't get any takers on spinners. Thanks guys!!

Cleaning rust off lure bodies.
Hey all,
So I'm going through and replacing some of the hooks on some lures that are rusted and I've noticed some of the rust on the bodies. I was just curious if anyone had an easy way to clean a bunch of them at once or a way to make sure I don't damage the paint. Thanks in advance!

In all my years, never saw anything like
A doe chasing a buck. They busted out of the brush into the yard, buck in the front. I thought something spooked them until the buck did a figure eight and the doe stayed on his heals. I heard the does were territorial, now I got to see it first hand.
The buck was one I will definitely be looking for this fall.

Tragedies, however unfortunate, also create opportunity. Charleston should be a shining example of how to handle such an atrocity. Well done.

Heading over to Sarnia Friday to meet some friends. I know there are a few places to fish in Port Huron/Marysville. Any decent places to fish in Sarnia? Will just have a pole with some lures and such so will have to fish from shore.
