i find it very interesting, the different things people need, want to hunt with. and i am not saying theres a right or wrong in any of it, other then for the individual.
some can't picture huntng deer without a baitpile and a tree stand and scentlock and scrapes, and scents,, while other go out and sit on a stump in their jeans and a jacket .
some hunt squirrel with a dog, (hand raised) while other have to slip threw the woods like a squirrely ninja or they feel something isn't right.
guns for example, i have hunted deer with everything from a .44 mag handgun, muzzle loader, rifle , 12 ga, and mostly an old 20 ga pump.
some shot gunners have a rifled barrel , others just the tube the gun came with . some use scopes and red dots, while others use that little brass bead thingy in the end of the gun .
some walk into the woods with a bucket to carry their lunch , and to sit on.others drive a 4x4 side by side loaded with all sorts of stuff.
now none of this is wrong,,,unless you don't do it my way of course.
but sometimes its good to just stop and ask ourselves just what we need to make this thing we do a success. and for that matter,,,how we define that success.
for me its enjoying myself in nature with a friend , or dog. if god wills it we will harvest an animal. if not i will still be greatful. i also prefer to take as little stuff with me as i can, while still being safe and comfortable.
so my wish for you all this year, is go out and have a safe, enjoyable , succesfull season. for what ever you hunt, trap or fish for. remember you do not own the public lands and the other guy has a right to be there too. respect each other, and behave like a gentleman in the woods.
when in doubt, i always ask myself what my grandfather would say. if he would smile at me, i general feel i have done right.:fish:
