Anyone Fish the Black for Steelhead?

I was thinking about making the drive out there next weekend for a change of scenery. I'm not looking for particulars, but I'm wondering what the river is like (never fished it before)? Is it worth the drive to check out? How is the steelhead run? Thanks for any help.

River jigger

Last trip of the year this afternoon, fished the marine city area. Water clarity was 6to8ft. picked up 4 nice ones had some bumps and caught some garbage. Had to slow to jigging way down, water temp was 42.5. Docks are still in but I don't think for too long. Looking forward to hard water fishing, hope it's better then last winter....tight lines everybody!

Managing for brow tines.

Some of the local hunters are getting pretty good about not shooting 1 and 2 year old bucks, but many of the three year olds that we're seeing have no brow tines. A few years ago, we would have laughed at the idea of 'management bucks', but we're starting to wonder whether taking out 2 year olds that don't have brow tines might tilt the balance toward seeing more bucks older than 3.5 with brow tines , the thought being the 3.5 year olds with no brow tines are likely to die anyway, so why not take them out at 2.5 and use one of the combo tags on them. I know that some high fence places do this. Is anybody else doing this?

OPEC's message to US shale: Drop dead

OPEC just fired a shot at the U.S. shale industry.

Despite tumbling prices -- the lowest since 2010 -- the cartel surprised the energy industry by deciding to keep pumping oil at current levels. One motivation is to squeeze higher-cost producers in North America, including the booming U.S. shale industry that has reshaped the global energy landscape.

It's a move Tony Soprano would be proud of. OPEC is betting lower oil prices will force U.S. producers to throw up the white flag and cut back on production because they won't be able to turn a profit.

"The gauntlet has been thrown down for Western Hemisphere producers like Brazil, Canada and the United States," Bespoke Investment Group wrote in a note to clients on Friday.

Related: Nightmare for oil stocks

Dot-com bust all over again? The fear is that OPEC's hard line could cause a pull back in the U.S. shale industry, sparking job losses and causing panic in the financial markets.

That's what Russian oil tycoon Leonid Fedun is predicting, although Russia isn't part of OPEC.

"The shale boom is on par with the dot-com boom. The strong players will remain, the weak ones will vanish," he told Bloomberg News on Thursday.

The OPEC move has clearly spooked investors, who sent energy stocks like Halliburton (HAL), Helmerich & Payne (HP) and Schlumberger (SLB) plummeting on Friday. (U.S. markets were closed for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday).

Fishing and trying to improve

So I have been doing shore fishing for years and years. I grew up near the water so I always road my bike over to the park with friends. We fished so much because of nothing better to do. The last 10 years life got in the way (girls, drinking, work and school in order of importance!) Now I have a little bit more time only hands so I started fishing again last year. Last year the results were sad and I wanted a way to get out on the water. So this spring I went out and got a nice fishing kayak, I really love it but it really limits where I can go. It's takes time to get out and get somewhere. I have had better success but I also spent a ton more time so that's probably what it was. I bought a 17 foot fishing boat in the fall and have loved every minute of it. None of this has made me a better fisherman at all. I would like to go out and catch something once in a while. Where do I start? I have taken charters and been reading and watching tv shows it really hasn't made a difference. Any suggestions

Got lucky with the SST

I must have hit a branch causing the bullet to tumble. Hit him a little back from where I was aiming and found the bullet between his hind quarter and his hide.

Wednesday was a great morning to be out!!! Had to get the kids on the bus so I was late getting into my stand, I was in the tree at 8:00. I immediately started see deer but all doe and the were all behind me down wind. I was surprised I didn't get busted. Right before 9 I heard a twig snap and knew

it was a deer coming from another direction. I saw some movement and raised my gun up and set it on my rest. I noticed right away it was a doe, it slowly worked the edge of a thick area. After watching it for a few minutes I saw more moving behind her. Put my scope on it and saw antlers. He slowly followed her till he got about 80 yards away, I found a small opening and dropped the hammer. He ran about 80 yards and crashed!!! Just the topping on another great day in the woods!

Looking for a deer

I am looking for a deer that I shot in Shiawassee county on the corner of Hibbard and Putnam roads. I have heard the person possibly trapping the culvert there drives a white dodge pick up. I was wondering if this person found the deer I shot the night before gun season. The neighbor found the deer and called me. The hind quarters, back straps and the horns where missing. I am glad that someone got some use of SOME of the meat. I am offering a $100 reward to the person that can point me to the horns. It was the biggest deer I have shot with my bow to date but someone found it before I did. I would really like the horns. Any info is appreciated. Thanks! 2014 highlights

2014 is quickly coming to a close. I will most likely only get out a few more times before the new year. I landed 19 steelhead on the pier. 2 of them were chucking spoons and the rest were caught on shrimp. This was my first season fishing bait off the pier i used to just cast hardware. I finally manned up and made my first batch of janky rod holders, and a 50 count bag of Meijer brand shrimp. I was not disappointed with my efforts after learning the shrimp rig although it took some time and effort before i had any action. So far in 2014 i have been able to land 19 steelhead. 2 were caught casting spoons and the rest on shrimp. My biggest fish was a 14.5#, 37" skamania on a cold August morning. I also managed to lose a monster lake trout and land 1 chinook! Plenty of multi species action on the pier that I failed to mention. Undoubtedly, one of the moments was putting my girlfriend on her first summer steelhead. Attachment 71014 Here are some of my 2014 pier season highlights. Good luck to all my fellow pier fishermen!Attachment 71013Attachment 71015Attachment 71016

A Rutgers student who was killed by a bear while hiking in New Jersey snapped photos of the 300-pound beast before it chased him, mauled him — and even gouged the phone the victim used to take his last pics.

Darsh Patel was walking with four friends through the Apshawa Preserve in West Milford in September when the black bear attacked.

The 22-year-old student became the first person to be killed by a bear in New Jersey.

West Milford police Tuesday released six photos taken before the attack, five of them snapped by Patel himself before the bear attacked, according to The Record of Hackensack.

The images show the lumbering male bear approaching a fallen tree about 100 feet away from the group.

The beast appears to get closer in the five photos taken by the Rutgers senior, including this one.

The police report said that the young hikers attracted the bear’s attention by taking the nature shots, according to The Record.

“They stopped and took photographs of the bear with their cellphones and the bear began walking towards them,” the police report said.

After snapping the shots, the four men tried to walk away, but the bear started to follow them and came within 15 feet of the group.

That’s when they split up and ran away in separate directions, they told police.

Four of them later regrouped, noticed that Patel was missing, and called police.

After a two-hour search, Patel’s body was discovered as the bear lingered near him.

It was shot to death by police officers. A necropsy of the bear revealed it had ingested human tissue and blood, as well as clothing, and had human blood on its paws, The Record said.

Patel’s phone was also found nearby with fang marks on it.

Ferguson- The system failed!

The system failed and it failed Officer Darren Wilson. Officer Wilson responded to an attack and defended himself in a manner consistent with accepted police procedure. Instead of grand jury proceedings There should of been a police chief, a prosecutor, and a mayor standing next to Officer Wilson saying he did the job we hired him to do. Officer Wilson will lose a career and has been drug through hell when testimony shows he acted within the law. The officials knew Officer Wilson acted within police procedures but left out to dry alone. The police chief and prosecutor have shown a complete lack of courage and were unwilling to face their responsibilities. It was shown beyond a reasonable doubt that some witnesses maliciously perjured in an attempt to cause harm to Officer Wilson. Failure to prosecute those who perjured themselves is a real travesty and slap in the face to law enforcement officers.

Random thoughts

For crossbow hunting I bait one gallon of corn and one gallon of sliced up apples and sugar beets. I always did feel that 2 gal. are as effective as five. For me baiting is critical for bow hunting.

I started baiting (and hunting) on Oct. 23 this year and could see something was eating most of it but it was not getting “cleaned up” the way that you know it’s deer. The top soil where I hunt is not sandy until you get down maybe six inches so I dug up a couple pails of sand and spread it around the bait to see what kind of tracks I’d find. It was a doe with a small fawn and they appeared to be the only ones coming to the bait.

It really shocked me that the state passed tree stands and baiting for rifle hunting.

It used to be a standard belief that hunters walking around the woods was why you saw most of your deer, (if you sat tight). Certainly a hunter can come down from the tree, leave his bait and walk around but you know that would be like going from high speed internet back to dial up.

This comes under the heading of “raising expectations” and I guess it’s ok since so many are turning to the crossbow. Still it’s sad to see that rifle hunting might be dying.

All tagged out!

Well I finally tagged out for this season. Couldn't even get in the woods in the UP so I came home and hunted my place. Saw this guy several times during bow season and caught him again last night as he was pushing some does around. I knew I hit him good but it was at last light and the rain was coming down pretty good so I decided not to push him. As I walked out the back door this morning I could here the coyotes howling like crazy and feared the worst. It didn't take long to walk up on him and the yotes went in all directions. I took a few pics and tagged him but I wasn't able to salvage much more then the head, cape and the front shoulder meat. All in all it's been a great season and I feel blessed to have taken a couple nice bucks and also got to watch my daughter fill a couple antlerless tags. Really missed hunting the UP but this one makes up for it. Sorry for the crappy pics.

Electric bow mounted winch

Hey guys I'm in the market for a winch for my duck boat to pull the dikes at Shiawassee. I know the chainsaw winches are strong and fast, but they are also $1000+. I am not going to be spending that kind of money on something that I will only use a handful of times a season.

Ohio advice?

I decided to bail on the outfitter and go hunt on a friends place. The has two large pieces of private to hunt near Coshocton Ohio. 600 a and 300 a. I have never hunted Ohio, in fact I have never hunted deer out of Michigan ! I am looking for any advice you can give me. Do people sit all day the way we do in Michigan? it doesn't seem that way. Are the first couple days as crazy down there as they are here?

I am planning to take my Muzzleloader because I don't have a slug gun or approved rifle, but I would get one if I thought I needed to.

I am going to be choosing my own hunting locations, my first thought is to choose vantage point on a funnel or field edge that I can see a long way. I am thinking I will bring my pop up blind with me, and a heater, with the intentions of sitting all day.

All info appreciated

Best HS Football League in Michigan

Here's a stistic that flies under many people's radar surrounding high school football in the state of Michigan.....

In 1999, the MHSAA created the 8 division system for its football playoffs. That was 16 years ago. EVERY year since the 8 division platform has been in place, at least one team from the Catholic High School League-Central Division has played in a state-championship game in either Division 1, 2 or 3.

Whats even more impressive is there are only 5 teams in the entire division. And, in some years, like this year, more than one team will play for the state title in a different division, specifically: Warren DeLaSalle in #2 and Orchard Lake St. Mary's in divison #3.

While not victorious in every game, it is a stat that no other divison in the state can measure up to. Again, 5 schools with enrollment going from 550 (OLSM) to 1,300 (DCC).

Here are the numbers: (win-loss does not include 2014)

Detroit/Novi Catholic Central: 7 (4-3)

Birmingham Brother Rice: 8 (5-3)

Orchard Lake St. Mary's: 9 (3-5)

Warren De Lasalle: 3 (0-2)

Treestand question for our Moderators

Can a neighbor on adjoining property legally put a treestand on his property line facing the property he does not own and shoot deer not on his property?

I ask this question as I have this issue in Sanilac County. We get along and have each others permission where if we hit a deer we can track and recover the deer but not to hunt on each others land. I asked him last weekend if he had a stand on my property and he said no I will show it to you. Its 3 foot inside the line overlooking my property and he admits he shoots my way. Doesnt seem right. Thanks for your response

Which Lowrance Ice Unit

I need help trying to decide which unit I want to upgrade too. I'm mostly leaning towards the elite 5. I like the 5" screen and the gps feature. If I were to ever get a boat or kayak I think it would suit me well for open water. I think my 2nd choice is the elite 4x. It doesn't have gps but I'm thinking about getting a handheld gps unit. I fish a few inland lakes so I would love to have gps so I don't have to drill so many random holes. The 2 things that I want the unit to have is on the left side of the screen to show my jigging history and the right side to vertically show my jig and fish like the showdowns.

I'm in Avoca. Seems like a good night. Seen some deer moving last weekend from all the shooting pressure.

Anyone seeing any action?

Look at what you did! Everybody who made a conscious decision to turn these numbers around in the last 10 years deserves a pat on the back. I have been hunting Huron County for 20 years and the hunting is getting better every year. Keep up the patience and persistance and try to hold the same standards on the last day of season as the first day of season. We obviously have support from our neighbors!

Anyone have luck with bumping a few ducks off a spot for an afternoon hunt and tossing a few dekes? Do they return? Spot in question is a small creek with a handful of ducks on it.

Who has the best warranty and customer service???

As soon as the season is over, I'm getting rid of my Bowtech RPM 360 and looking for something else. I want to start my search with whatever company has the best warranty and/or customer service (which btw, is not Bowtech).

I hear Elite has the "Elite promise" which is pretty amazing. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Need help Troubleshooting Grandpa's gun

Before Grandpa passed, he gave me his Remington 1100 with a bird barrel. Years went by after he passed and I only used it once or twice, because I'm not much of a small game hunter. So, to get more use out of it, I decided to get a hastings rifled barrled with a cantilever scope mount and added a Nikon Slughunter scope.

I took it to the range last night and could not get a good grouping out of it at all! First shot at 50 yards was off the paper (added new rings so I'm not too surprised). The guys at the range helped me get on paper with a bore sighter, then I started to make adjustments. I hit the bulls at 50, then 5" high at 100, which doesn't make sense to me. I made a few clicks to the south and was now 3" low at 100. Made two more clicks up and missed the paper all together.

Backed up to 50 and I'm on paper again. Two shots at 50 resulted in two hits but 8-9" apart in opposite directions, without making any changes.

Rings and all screws are tight, I had a rock solid rest, indoor range so take any crosswind out of the equation.

I'm thinking it's either due to a warm barrel or my gun just doesn't like Remington sabot slugs.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The gun has great sentimental value to me, so getting a different shotgun is not an option. I am open to making modifications to this gun and making it a dedicated slug gun.

Thanks!

9 point down and tagged out

So I am sitting in my blind and had to pee really bad since 5:00 and its 5:30 now and couldn't take it anymore.

I get up out of my chair set my gun up against the inside of my pop up, move my chair, look back to make sure there aren't any deer, unzip the door, grab my gun, step out and zip the door back shut.

As I stand up behind the blind I see a deer. So I duck down behind the blind. I get on my knees and peek around the side to look through the scope and notice it's a buck.

So now I'm freaking out because I know I can't shoot this deer off hand because of the weight of my gun at 135 yards. So I unzip the blind get back inside, put the barrel on the hole in the window while hunched over the chair and let it fly. Deer ran 40 yards and that's the story.

Fawn survival

We have been debating this in our camp for years. I have contacted the Mich DNR Whitetail biologists and I will post his remarks when and if he responds.

Several hunters in our camp have no problem killing a doe that has fawns with her. They believe the fawns are far enough along and will survive the winter just fine. Others of us do not think this is necesarily true. Does form a family unit and travel together matriarchs, mom,s,daughters and fawns. They kick any 1 1/2 year old males out of the unit but the females stay together. This has to be beneficial to the fawns. I have taken does that I believed to be without fawns only to find that they were wet and obviously nursing, oh well I tried to do what I thought was right. I personally can not shoot a doe with her baby standing right next to her regardless of whether the fawn will survive, but that is my issue. I would like to know what you think.

Holloway Reservoir Crappies

When I was a kid, I remember my older brothers and my neighborhood friends Dads coming home from a day's fishing Holloway Dam with stringers of some very impressive crappies. Now I realize that was a long time ago, but I've never had the opportunity to get out on Holloway and fish, not have I talked with anyone in years that has fished (for crappies) out there. I heard that some would fish below the dam and others fish above it, but again, never heard which might be better.

My wife and I just bought kayaks this Fall and I'm thinking a nice time to break it in and get it slimey would be going after some ice out crappies in the Spring with some minnows or jigs.

Anyone know if they still hit good near the dam and would you maybe mind giving me a hint as to a good place to start?

I'd be more than happy if any local yakkers would care to join me.

Successful tonight

I shot a very cool looking 7 pt tonight. First buck I had in shooting distance during many sits for bow and gun season. It's probably a 1.5 year old, I'd post a picture but dont want to subject myself to the haters. It was a great story, likely one of my most memorable. Happen to be on my dad's birthday, who passed away in 2013. Hope everyone else's season is going well.

How ofton do you guys clean your shotgun/rifle?

With the colder temps lately I am wondering if i should clean my shotgun and if the colder temps are going to gel up the oils and what not. And I spent opening weekend up north and I did shoot my rifle up there to sight it in and I put about half a box through it. I am going up the weekend of Thanksgiving just wondering if I should clean it or just wait til the end of the season to clean it good. And the same with my shotgun that I havent cleaned since the end of Turkey season this spring.

Grafted Pear Varieties

I'll be planting a few dozen pear seedlings this coming spring. Some I'm growing from seed of a wild pear, others will come form Oikos. Being seedlings I realize that drop date, fruit size, etc is sort of a crap shoot. I'd like to also add some proven producer grafted varieties. The most important characteristic I'm looking for is late drop date, as I typically do not start hunting until late October. All varieties I've looked at range in ripening date from August-early October. What varieties have been working for you guys and hold their fruit well into season? I know kieffer is a popular one and a later dropper, but some sources list it as dropping as early as Oct 10.

New to the Forum

Hello,

I live way down in Florida, have hunted mostly in GA all my life, where I am from, and am joining this forum to learn more about the different areas of Michigan and about deer hunting up there

The last couple of years I have been up to Emmet county during the summers, and came once around Christmas time. What a beautiful place. As nice as it is around the lake, I cant help but think about how awesome it would be to hunt up there. My favorite setting in GA is hardwood drains/ridges/ravines, and I see plenty of that up there. Feels like home

PETA continues killing animals

For when the anti's are whining, this is something you save and post.

http://ift.tt/1wT8gzc

Two women who rolled up to a residential property in Virginia in a PETA-branded van took a family’s Chihuahua off their front porch, only to return three days later to tell them that the dog had been euthanized. The theft was caught on a home security camera.

The two PETA employees were arrested and charged with larceny, but the prosecutor’s office didn’t pursue charges, despite the video tape. The action, while undeniable, didn’t prove criminal intent in opinion of the prosecutor. A local news agency contacted both PETA and the prosecutor, but neither organization would comment on the alleged act.

This isn’t the first time PETA employees have been accused of obtaining pets under false pretenses and then killing them. In 2007, employees in North Carolina were arrested and brought to trial for “rescuing” very adoptable puppies and kittens from shelters and veterinarian offices and then killing them in the back of a PETA van and dumping the carcasses in dumpsters.

According to official paperwork filed by PETA, the organization has killed more than 31,000 pets since 1998 – that’s more than 87 percent of all the puppies and kittens they’ve “rescued.”

"Tank"

I was able to kill my best buck to day on the evening of the 17th. I head out to the woods at 1pm for the evening hunt. I knew the conditions weren't optimal but you can not kill them from your couch. It was definitely cold and windy. At one point I felt like getting down early because I could no longer feel my feet and hadn't seen a deer all night with about 45 minutes to go. Of course I didn't get down but man did I want to. For some reason I truly felt I was going to get skunked on this hunt. Then right around 5 I heard deer behind me. Not sure how they got there but I knew I couldn't move since I didn't know exactly where they were. A minute later a bb came past at 10 yards, he was followed by a doe. At least I didn't get skunked. As they fed out in front of me the bb suddenly snapped his head up looking into the brush. I thought he's looking at something, or he just caught my scent. A few seconds later a deer I had only seen 1 time before and described him to my wife as a Tank had stepped out of the brush. He began walking away, I quickly got into position settled the crosshairs of my sons 357 max Encore behind his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Tank dropped instantly. As I scrambled to get another shell in the gun he let out a death roar. I still put one more shot in him as his head was still up and I had no intention of posting a story about how I dropped my best buck ever and he jumped up and ran away. I couldn't believe it. I honestly never thought I would see this deer again. Thank God I did and was able to close the deal after missing a deer on opening day due to my scope being broken internally and me not knowing it. I just had it at the range a few days ago and it was fine.

Anyone hunt with a winchester 1300 12 gauge? Sabot question...

I picked up a Winchester 1300 with 24in rifled barrel and I just put a scope on there yesterday. Before I did that I tried Lightfields sabots (The heaviest) and they were low and wouldn't group. I tried Hornady SST and they shot high at 50 yards and grouped ok but high to the right. I went to VF in Port Huron and they said try Winchester Partition Golds...Those shot low like the Lightfields...SO before I go and blow another $100 on ammo..Can someone give me a suggestion as to what I can use here.

Looks like the Hornady is the only one. I got a brand new scope bore sighted and mounted... and right out of the gate the Partition gold shells shot low at 50 yards about 8 inches..At 25 yards they shot 4 inches low.

Im thinking the twist being 1:28 mmay require the 2000fps shells..The slow shells seem to just dive at the ground at 50 yards...

Any advice appreciated here...Oh and the scope is a Bushnell Dusk and Dawn Model...Mounted by a reputable gunsmith.

I don't get it..

URGENT MESSAGE for KABY CREW!!!!

I need advice

Ok I need some advice. I own and live on 15 acres. The property next to me no one lives on but the owner gives permission to 2 people to hunt it. One guy hunts by himself, the other brings family and friends. Total acreage is 30. The guy who hunts on my side is the one who brings others out occasionally. This year he hit a buck bow season, I helped him track it, we didn't find it. A week or so later he shoots 2 bucks the same night, finds neither. Shoots a fourth buck, a 6pt, turns out to be one he wounded the week before. Yesterday I'm out with my 6 year old trying to get him his first deer, a shot rings out close by, it's him saying he shot a wounded deer ( I texted him). 15 minutes later a 6 pt comes by, as it gets closer I see it's wounded, my 6 year old was getting it lined up when it falls. It was liver shot, the deer he claimed was wounded but only had 1 hole in it. So, he shot 2 6 pts, ( both 3x3 ). His daughter shot one in youth season (truly am happy for any youth to get one), but that's 5 bucks shot from a relatively small parcel and illegal cause one didn't have more than 4 points on one side. He's out hunting again today, with his adult son. I drug the deer out for him yesterday, never saw him tag it. I'm worried about causing issues and make the situation work. I've been a good neighbor, even picking up car replacement parts for him when his vehicle broke down. In my opinion he's been very unethical but not it's actually breaking the law. Any advice or opinions? It's frustrating cause I let smaller ones go only to have someone there shoot them ( I know that's hunting ) but the biggest thing is my son, he is so upset and trusted by the whole thing. I keep telling him if does things the right way he'll be rewarded but it's tough when he sees someone not doing it right get rewarded.

Deer tagging question in Michigan

Looked through the forums to try and find an answer but haven't found what I am looking for.

So My question is, a deer was legally killed and tagged, wanted to share with buddy's. we skinned and quartered the deer, one guy wants a hind quarter to take home and make sausage, another I am giving the front quarter to make jerky, etc. and I am taking the other hind quarter and straps home with me. Who has to keep the tag and does anybody else legally need a tag?

Did I Miss Opening Day Of Gun Season?

Yesterday evening (November 13th), I was in a treestand bow hunting in Hillsdale County. About 20 minutes before dark I distinctly counted 18 different gun shots. I don't mean one person shooting 18 times. I mean 18 different people, in different locations over the course of 20 munutes. Maybe 18 guys all got off work at the same time and decided to sight in their guns. In the snowy, windy, and dimly lit conditions. Or maybe I missed opening day of gun season. That's it, they must have changed the gun opener to November 13th. I better keep that "in mind" for next year. So keep it "in mind" everyone. The new gun opener in November 13th.

Rogue River State Game Area

I was curious if anyone has hunted the Rogue River State Game Area during opening day or the days that follow. We have been bow hunting out here all year and yet to have an encounter with another hunter, but as everyone knows opening day is a different story. I'm just curious if it is a war zone out there on the opener and worth spending anytime. I know any parcel of state land is going to attract hunters and the easier the access point the more hunters so if we have done our homework and hung our stands in relatively isolated areas is it worth spending the Saturday of opener?

EHD/winter kill

After hunting the bow season the number of deer in my two hunt areas Gladwin/Lenawee counties are down quite a bit. My turnip plots north last year were gone by November this year there are many left. We felt our southern mi area may have been hit by the EHD and this year seems to verify. Very few deer on camera maybe 1/3 the scrapes and very few rubs. What are the hunters that thought they got hit by EHD reporting this year.

2014 A.L. Cy Young Award Winner

"And the Award goes to......Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians!!! What the???? Corey WHO? Clubber...Koober... who the heck is Corey Goober??? Actually a pretty darn good pitcher on the rise, well, maybe. He had a darn good season from what I saw of him, he'll probably be offered 6 years at 144 million and then promptly turn it down because when one wins the Cy Young they will be mentioned every time a "good pitcher" conversation is started. Corey who???

Anyway that all said.... If you had one game left and it decided whether your team wins the Division, ALDS, ALCS, or World Series and you had only 2 choices to toe the slab.... I would take Felix over Max in a heartbeat in that situation also.

Anyway, congratulation to Corey. One heck of a great season, nice extended stats also. Can't go wrong with the pick. Corey WHO????

Anyone have Taxadermy (shoulder mount) Recommondations.

I know you get what you pay for in terms of quality.

However, I am wondering if any of you can recommend a place that

does very good quality for a price in the 350-399 range???

Do you really have to spend over 450 to get quality work done?

I would be willing to travel anywhere from Lake Orion-Flint-Port Huron area.

Thanks

Tricks to get sabots to load easier?

I'm shooting a TC Triumph with BH209 and Shock Wave super glide sabots in 250gr. They are a bugger to push down the barrel! Any tricks to make them easier to load?

From North West Ontario.

Hello from North West Ontario. Moose season and deer season in full swing here. We have about one and a half inches of snow on the ground, lakes are just starting to freeze around the edges. Looking forward to ice fishing for lake trout.

Dryer caught fire!

As said last night washing my hunting stuff my electric dryer catches unfire.

To the point I wanted to cry. Just gave all my old stuff away and had saved all year to buy new clothing. Now they are ruined and im digging threw the closest for sweat pants, shirts, and sweater. Some how I will be out on the 15 and 16 for my all day sit.

Just a hard blow to take just days away from rifle opener.

Found Boxer Pup

I know we have a lost and found forum but there is no activity.. Tonight was my B day went to Chase Smokehouse.. Was immediately greeted by a Boxer puppy I would say maybe 8-9 months.. Have owned boxers for 18 years had a soft spot..

Went in, asked, been here all day, take it.:sad::sad: Ate.. Went out, dog came back and greeted us.. Left the dog, got about 10 miles up the road could not take seeing that pup in the snow and chance of being hit on 10.. Went back grabbed it.. Left name and number in restaurant..

My 4 yr old boxer loves it.. Its a great pup, knows basic commands.. Really have no ambition to keep and do not know what to do.. Placed add on C list will call shelters, and papers tomorrow.

If anyone on here knows anyone with a boxer pup in the Chase/Reed City area that is missing please hit me up. Anxious to reunite this pup with his loving home.

Opening day buck pole?

This will be our 1st gun season on our property in the Tekonsha area. I was wondering if there will be any buck poles in the area or surrounding areas of Marshall or Coldwater.

Thanks

Is there a better boot option than mickeys?

Been looking at boots lately. And seems like they get more expensive the warmer and more waterproof you want. So I guess my question is. For the money. Is it even worth looking at anything other than mickeys?!

Stolen Trail Cameras On My Street?? No...

Yep! Where I live there are 10- 80 acre pieces along our street which is about 3 miles long. All of it is private homes with very few "cottages". My neighbor across from me has 40 acres with an awesome 8 acre meadow in the back. He came over a little bit ago and wanted to know if I had told anyone about his blinds and cameras. Of course not. Not even a topic of discussion.

Well, last evening he went around and checked his cameras before it got dark. He told me that some of the trail cameras were GONE! POOF! Not cool! We spoke with a couple of neighbors and they saw nothing. Of course. I'd love to catch 'em!:D:D:evilsmile Our CO lives about 2 miles away.:evilsmile

We don't have this happen around here. Everyone watches each others properties when someone is not home and since 1997 when I moved here, there has NEVER been something stolen from anyone that I am aware of.

If any of you up here in Alcona County or Iosco and even Oscoda County sees or hears of anyone selling tree stands, cameras, etc., etc. PLEASE contact me via PM. This is bothersome.

Yes, we looked on Craigs and Ebay.

Screen Width ?

What width for a screen is just enough to screen your movement but not enough for deer to bed in? I'm planting a border around my wood lot and want it for access but want to keep the deer in the woods. I'm aiming for 30'. I know a lot of people have done this in the past, especially guys who have enrolled in CRP field boarder programs so I thought I'd ask. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wetland Advice

I purchased a 35 acre parcel 4 years ago that consists of 3 acres of tillable ground (which is planted with beans or corn every year), 10 acres of wetland tall grass, and the rest is woods. The 10 acres floods every spring and is typically dry by July 1st. The first 2 years I owned the property the flooding was not that bad, not drivable on, but just puddles everywhere throughout the 10 acres. However, the past 2 years due to the wet springs and snow we have had, it turns into a lake essentially (still drying out in July for me to drive on, but literally from late March until Memorial day we have taken a boat out to bowfish for carp as they spill over from a nearby creek). So my question is, is there anything that I can do with this 10 acres that would create a better holding ground for deer? Or maybe a way to have it not flood in the spring?

I have attached a picture of the grass that grows in the summer.

Thanks in advance.

Number of tag being sold

Anyone know if the number of deer tag being sold is down this year? I have been receiving a few wired emails from the DNR, one stating if you purchased a single tag by mistake you can now go back and purchase a second tag, another one asking to be an ethical hunter and buy a tag before hunting, don't loan a tag.

Need some spread size help

I'm looking to pick some of your brains on spread size. I know a lot of guys out there doing really well with just 12-18 mallards out, and maybe a few can floaters and a mojo at the most. It's good to hear a small spread like that works well, but I'm wondering if and when a larger spread would ever hurt you? DU has some nice articles on decoy spreads, and they suggest that there's nothing wrong with a small spread BUT more decoys will never hurt you.

I'm headed up north to deer camp this weekend, but will be duck hunting most of the time. Our deer camp is about a 500 acre property with a private lake on it that is a bit shy of a square half mile. It's no tiny marsh, so I'm wondering if I should roll out all the soldiers on this one, which is about 5 dozen ducks and a half dozen can floaters, plus my mojo (specifically, it's 24 mallards + 2 butts, 6 magnum blacks, 6 pintail drakes + 2 butts, 6 woodies, 6 GWTs, 6 mixed magnum divers (2 buffie, 2 goldeneye, 2 canvasback), 6 canada floaters and the mallard drake mojo wing spinning floater).

Just wondering whether any of you would recommend choking up on that spread and not putting them all out on a lake like that. The private lake is only a mile or so from BIG water, so we get divers in there all the time.

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

Josh

What to drain your venison in...?

Had to butcher up a deer this weekend due to the rising temps. Right now I have all the meat in glass bowls in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap, that I drain a few times a day. I usually like to let them hang longer than I was able...

....but if you do let it "age" in the fridge...how do you do it? strainers...? I just need a better set up-I don't think i'm getting enough blood out.

X67C ducer

Anybody out there have a iceducer that they aren't using. Last year I found an elite 5 and hooked it up to my x67 ice kit. This year I want to fab up a ice kit to get the old unit usable again, so if I take a buddy that doesn't have one he can use it. Just ordered two new 12v 9ah batteries for each unit. Thinking I will try and find a soft side lunch size cooler to make the portable bag from. Anyway if any body has a unit that died and has the transducer I would be interested in it. I can get a brand new one for around $70, so with the battery and bag I should be looking at getting it back on the ice for around $100, $120.

Does the RAP line work? - Muskamoot Dirtbags

Well the dirtbags that make hunting Muskamoot so much fun were out again yesterday.

If you were driving a long tail in the back of Muskamoot - near the islands that separate little and big Muskamoot Bay - and you were shooting those divers from your boat...and you heard me yell at you...you're a F*#king dirtbag.

anyway....has anyone ever called the RAP line in our area and actually seen action from the DNR?
