Buying used lower units (Honda BF90A)

I need a Honda outboard guru.

I can find a new lower unit for a n engine a few years newer than mine.

Question is, what level of interchangeability do Honda lower units have?

My motor is a 1997. The lower unit I can find is a 2005 or 2006.

As far as I can tell, the pre-EFI 90hp outboards are fundamentally the same starting with the 1997 model year. EFI started in 2007.

Does anyone know if a 2005 lower unit will fit on a 1997 engine for a BF90A?
