Only because we allow it. We can't band together on anything. We could run a petition drive to pin a $10 a year, for a fixed number of years, for a Great Lakes license, all funds being used to buy out all commercial interests in Michigan. It would be even better if Canadian sport fisherman would join in with us.
It won't happen. We are going to spend far more time arguing more about whether or not to stock more salmon, or lake trout, or whatever, than we will working on trying to get rid of the nets.
