LOL I thought the picture of the guy with the "balls of steel" was me at first, had to take a second look. After I realized my motor was larger and actual boat is longer.. pheww...but not by much! I push the river a lot in my jon boat. I think it's great in spring especially for the pike, bass, action. But I'm out chasing walleye in april and musky in November as well. Having a smaller than average boat has never stopped me. If anything I think having the means to access back waters gives a small advantage given the time of year. But like the other guys said, just use your head and you should be fine. Always wear a life jacket, the river is a powerful one. Wind reports are my best friend, if the wind is questionable I just wait. If it's blowing hard to one direction i'll find the protected areas to fish on the river if I just have to get out. Tankers speeding, yachters in the summer and wind are your three factors to watch for. I'd suggest fishing the early mornings and late dusk in the summer b/c the party patrol will ruin many days of fishing for you. Best of luck and be prepared upon being safe.
