I'm basically a steely newbie. I'm also already tired of getting sawed off by fish close to the boat. I fish plugs exclusively, and this has happened more than once, using 12lb mono and 10 lb fluorocarbon. The line is breaking either due to being run across their teeth or hitting a gill plate while they are thrashing and twirling in the current. My knots seem okay. So I'm thinking an easy fix is a steel leader ala Mr. Snot Rocket northern pike. I check my line regularly for nicks too. So...Steel Leaders for Steelhead?
